ANTHONY ILG, Sandusky, was
born in Wurtemburg, Germany, in 1820, and was a son of
Casper Ilg. Anthony was married in
Germany in 1846 to Charity Manz. They
emigrated to America in 1849, and settled in Cincinnati,
where Anthony became engaged in the hotel and saloon
business. They had a family of eight children, but three of
whom are now living: Grace, born in Germany,
Gustave and Otto. Charity died in
April, 1871. Mr. Ilg was married again in December,
1871, to Mary Eble. Mary was a daughter of John
and Barbara Eble, who resided in Indiana, coming to this
country from Germany in 1854. Mr. Ilg purchased an
interest in the old Fox brewery in 1871, the firm
then being Raible, Stroble & Ilg; from 1874 to 1879
the firm was Stroble & Ilg, and in 1879 Mr. Ilg
became sole proprietor. The firm now is A. Ilg & Co.
Mr. Ilg settled in Sandusky in 1874.
