EARLY ASHLAND COUNTY AREA -
HOUSEHOLDERS
Since Ashland County was not organized until
1846, no early tax lists were obtainable. Rather than omit
Ashland County, a few other lists for that area are substituted.
Ashland County was formed from the townships of Vermillion,
Montgomery, Orange, Green, Hanover and parts of Clearcreek, Milton,
Mifflin and Monroe in Richland County, (Monroe was later retroceded
to Richland); also the townships of Sullivan and Troy in Lorain
County; Ruggles township in Huron County; and all except the eastern
tier of sections of the townships of Jackson, Perry, Mohican and
part of the township of Lake in Wayne County. The county seat
is Ashland.
(These records taken from Ashland County History by H. S. Knapp)
