.FAIRFIELD COUNTY, OHIO
FAIRFIELD COUNTY was formed in 1800.
The county seat is at Lancaster. A few years
after the 1806 tax was taken Fairfield was being
divided into other counties. In 1804 part of
it was taken to form Muskingum County; in 1808
part was taken to form Knox and Licking counties;
In 1810 part was taken to form Pickaway also
containing portions of Ross and Franklin counties
and Perry also contained portions of Muskingum and
Washington counties. Many of the names in the
1806 Tax List will be found to be mis-spelled.
