 DR. C. R. CLEMENT 
of Groveport, Madison township, was born in Fairfield county, May 1, 1852.  
His father was Joseph W. Clement, a prominent merchant at Greencastle, 
Fairfield county where he was of more than local prominence and influence.  
The elder Clement was married to Miss Maria Paul, who came also of a 
prominent family, and two sons were born to them, both of whom are living. 
     Dr. Clement began his education in the district 
schools of Fairfield county, then attended the Fairview Academy at 
Pleasantville, Fairfield county, and then the Holbrook Normal School at Lebanon, 
Warren county.  Graduating from the Normal School, he took up the 
profession of teaching and followed it for a few years. 
     Then, moving previously, entered upon the study of 
medicine.  He attended the Miami Medical School at Cincinnati, where he 
matriculated, then entered the Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, from 
which he graduated in 1878 with honors. 
     He began the practice of medicine at Canal Winchester, 
Madison township, Franklin county, forming a partnership with Dr. J. B. 
Potter under the firm name of Potter & Clement which continued until 
1881, when it was dissolved.  He remained at Canal Winchester until 1882, 
when he went to Montana and practiced his profession for one year.  In 1883 
he returned to Groveport and associated himself with Dr. H. L. Chaney 
under the style of Chaney & Clement, which continued until 1885.  In 
that year Dr. Chaney was chosen to the Ohio Legislature and shortly after 
removed to the city of Columbus.  Since 1885 Dr. Clement has 
practiced his profession alone. 
     On the 25th of September, 1879, he was married to 
Miss Elizabeth Freed.  They have no children.  In politics, Dr. 
Clement is a Republican and a member of the county executive committee.  
He is a prominent Mason.  As a physician Dr. Clement has long ranked among 
the able and prominent physicians and medical practitioners in Central Ohio.
