ELDERADO
Monroe Tp. Pop. July, 1875, 300 First lots laid out in 1852,
by L. R. McWhinney. First house built by the same.
He carried on a general merchandize business, and also realized
a handsome sum by his investments and transactions in real
estate. About the year 1867 A. C. Ford made an addition to
the south side, and Samuel Banfill added to the east side in
1871; and Ford's second addition was made the same year.
Blackford & Samuel's addition in 1873. Mr. McWhinney was
succeeding by F. McWhinney, and he by Henry Lawrence, M. T.
M'Whinnny is the present proprietor, and, in connection with dry
goods, is engaged in the grain trade. A general store is
also kept by Schreel &Vance. Grocers, W. D. Jaqua and
Peter Eversole. Drugs, H. J. Lefevre. The depot of
Agricultural Implements, kept by S. L. McCoy, is convenient of
access to farmers in that part of the county. The large
Tile establishment of R. J. Roberson has added to the prosperity
of the town.
Eldorado is 28 miles from Dayton, 14 from Richmond, and
12 yearly north of Eaton.
