CHURCHES

BUCKSKIN CHURCH in the Village of South Salem, in Ross
county, Ohio, was established in 1802, by a group of
Presbyterians, many of whom were of Scottish descent. The
cemetery connected with this church is in the village, The
original church stood nearby. South Salem can be reached
from State Route 28 out of Greenfield, Ohio, and is about 2
miles south of Lyndon off Route 28. This church is the
parent church of the following four churches. |

OLD CONCORD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH was established by a
group from Buckskin church in 1804. It and the cemetery
stand on a hill back of Lattaville, Ohio. It can be
reached from Chillicothe, Ohio west on U. S. 50 to State Route
28, turning North to Lattaville. Go east on Route 28 out
of Greenfield Ohio to Lattaville, turning north. |

PISGAH CHURCH was organized in 1811. The original
church and cemetery were on the Good Hope-Austin Road, and the
old cemetery is still there. About 1860 the present church
was built on the Good Hope Lyndon Road. The church is on
the right going south out of Good Hope in Fayette County, Ohio.
Or turn off State Route 28 just west of Lyndon in Ross
County and the church is on the left, soon after crossing Route
128. |

BLOOMINGBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH was organized in 1817
and is in the village of Bloomingburg in Fayette County, Ohio
Reverend William Dickey who served this church for 40 years
was a brother to Reverend James Dickey who served Pisgah
and Buckskin Churches. |

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH was orgaized
in 1817, and stands on the corner of Hinde and Market streets
opposite the Postoffice. The members of this church and
the one in Bloomingburg often were dismissed from one to be
received in the other. |

RESEARCHERS will observe that ministers who served in one of
these churches often served in one or more of the others.
Many families appear in the records of two or more of these
churches, so that the early records of all of them should be
examined. |

PISGAH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Records of the Session of Pisgah Anno Domini 1810
In the year 1810 in the month of August James H. Dickey a
licentiate from West Lexington Presbytery passed through the
Settlements on Paint Creek as a missionary under the Assembly
and spent two weeks during which time the people inhabiting the
heards of Buckskin, Harrods Run, Indian Creek, etc. known by the
name of Pisgah Congregation (though yet unorganized) in
conjunction with the Congregations of Buckskin and Concord
solicited the said Dickey to settle among them as their
Pastor. To this he consented.
On the 25th day of September the Congregation of Pisgah
prepared a call (the Revd. Robt. G. Wilson being
moderator of the meeting) for the one third of the ministerial
labours of James H. Dickey which call was presented
through the Presbyteries of Washington and West Lexington on the
9 or 10 of October and Accepted the James H. Dickey was
dismissed from the Presbatory of West Lexington to join that of
Washington.
Anno Domini 1811
On the second day of
June 1811, the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered
at Concord and the following parsons from the bounds of Pisgah
were admitted to the Communion of the Church viz.
Francis Boyd and Ann his wife and John
Blair.
August 28th, 1811 James H. Dickey was
Ordained to the gospel ministry by the laying on of the hands of
the Washington presbytory, and at the time Installed pastor of
the United congregations of Buckskin, Concord and Pisgah.
On the First of September the Lord's Supper was
administered at Buckskin and from the bounds of Pisgah were
admitted to the Communion of the Church Sarah FInch and
Susan Cowley.
