WOOD FAMILY CEMETERY #161
LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP
Vol. 1 p. 161
Located at S15. Due east
of Atwater-Snode Rds. intersection, near the creek
Thomas Wood was one of the founders of the
Methodist Episcopal Church at Lexington. In
later years he united with the Wesleyan Church
because that church boldly denounced the system of
American slavery in every form. He retained
his membership in this church until his death on
June 6, 1850 at the age of 67 years. Cherry
died on Sept. 22, 1855, age 72 years. They are
both buried in the old Wood Family Cemetery.
Their descendants now number about 1000, and are
settled in 10 different states of the Union.

Daniel, the
youngest son, settled in South Dakota. His
daughter, Margaret Wood Pollock of Orient,
South Dakota, has saved the Hatter's tools used by
Thomas those long years ago.
It is regretable that so
many of the old stones have been shot up, defaced,
carted off or lost.
