Marshallville is in
northwestern portion of Baughman township. It was laid out by James
Marshall, Feb. 7, 1817, the next village after Wooster was laid out. Mr.
Marshall was a member of the old Seceder church in Dalton. When Martin
Weimer came to this place in 1834 there were but ten houses and were occupied
by: Elijah Dancer, Calvin Brewster, James & Joseph Hogan, Enoch Moffitt,
James Marshall, John Roch, and two shoemakers named Scotton and Ellingham.
It was incorporated
as a municipality Feb. 10, 1866. The first officers were Charles Schlultt,
mayor, C. L. Gehres, recorder, Martin Weimer, George Reinoehl, Benjamin Carrell,
John Pfunder and Wm. Pinkley, councilmen.
