STEERHIME / HOHWALD / STEUR

Dated: Apr. 13, 2025
From: Pat Borcherding (pat@borcherding.us)
Please find some information on my husbands family, not quite sure how to or what to send so will just add a bit for the time being, just want to get the name out there.
The name Stairhime, has many spelling's, its thought that the name was changed through a disagreement Jacob Steerhime was born about 1798 in Hessen Damstadt, Germany, not sure
when the family arrived in the U.S, closest I can find is about  1853. The earliest census I can find is the 1870 , this tells of the family. Wife
Elizabeth, sons Philip, Michael, John daughters Mary, and Rossana. By 1874, Jacob has died, he is buried in Coshocton at the Flat Rock Lutheran Cemetery, he was 75.
The children Philip the eldest married in Chili, Ohio, in 1859 to Louise Bretzie, they had 12 children.
Michael, married Catherine Hohwald in 1873, they had 5 children. Served in the 143rd Ohio National Guard as a Private.
Mary, married Christian Steur in 1872, they had no children. Mary died at the hands of her husband in Medina in 1912. There are a number of newspaper
articles telling of this horrific murder, he was later convicted and died in State Hospital for the insane.
John born in Bedford, Coshocton, married Sarah Carpenter , they had one child.
Rossanna the youngest daughter married a Mr. Livingstone. Records show in 1912 at the time of her sister's death she and was living in Amboy Michigan,
have no other information on her at this time.

That's a short story on the family, will add more, just wanted to get there
names out there for the time being.
Thanks
Pat
