HOCKING COUNTY was formed March 1, 1818, from Ross, Athens and Fairfield.  Its surface is broken and hilly, but is level and fertile beside the streams.  The Wyandots once occupied this tract and built a large town herein.  In 1798 a few white families ventured to settle.  Logan is its county seat and is situated on the Hocking rover.
