MYRON T. HERRICK,
banker, b. Huntington, Lorain County, O., Oct. 9, 1854. His
parents were descended from Massachusetts family of Colonial
origin and his grandfather was pioneer of Lorain county. Ed.
in public schools and at Oberlin College and Western Reserve
Univ.; studied law in Cleveland and in 1886; elected pres. in
1895; resigned presidency in 1905 and became chairman of board of
directors of the Society. He was elected city Councilman in
1885; served two years. Mr. Herrick has been member of every
Republican National Convention, except 1900, when he was in
Europe. In that year made presidential elector at large.
In 1900 also app. mem. Rep. Nat. Com. from Ohio. In 1904
elected member of committee. In 1893 Gov. McKinley made him
a colonel on his personal staff. He refused to accept place
in McKinley's cabinet and refused ambassadorship to Italy from
both McKinley, and Roosevelt. On June 4, 1903, was elected
Republican Gov. of Ohio by majority of 113,812, largest majority
ever given a candidate. Has been interested in following
enterprises among others; Clev. Hdw. Co., The Cleveland
Arcade, Bat. Carb. Co., Cuy Bldg. Co. Has been director in
railroads and in big banking institutions in Cleveland. New
York and other cities. Pres. Am. Bankers Assn. in 1901; re
elected pres. Soc. of Savings and holds office now. Married
July 30, 1880 to Caroline M. Parmely; one son, Parmely W. Herrick.
Appointed Ambassador to France Feb. 15, 1912. Decorated
Grand Cross of Legion of Honor on departure Dec. 1914.
