GREENE COUNTY was formed May 1, 1803, at the home of Owen Davis,
Beaver Creek, it being taken from the counties of Hamilton and
Montgomery. It was named for General Nathaniel Greene of
Revolutionary War fame.

GREEN COUNTY, OHIO was
established 24 Mar. 1803. It was first organized into townships on 10 May
1803. This was the first action by the first court for transaction of
county business forty-seven days after its organization. At this time it
was divided into four townships: Sugarcreek, Caesarscreek, Ma River, and
Beavercreek. Mad River disappeared and became part of Champaign County
when it was formed in 1805.
