WENTZEL, JACOB E.
FIRST LIEUTENANT, COMPANY "H", 4TH
OHIO VOLUNTEER CAVALRY, AND BREVET CAPTAIN.
Was
First Lieutenant of Company "H," 4th Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry, and Acting Adjutant; date of muster out, July
15th, 1865. Was Brevetted as Captain, on the 23d
day of July, 185. Date of enlistment, September
9th, 1861. Battles engaged in: Stone River,
Perryville (Kentucky), Chickamauga, Atlanta, Lovejoy
Station, Selma. Was with General Wilson's
Raid; also General Killpatrick's belonged to
General Eli Long's Cavalry Division.
WARD, DURBIN.
COLONEL, 17TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
AND BREVET BRIGADIER GENERAL.
First
Volunteered in Warren county, Apr. 15th, 1861, 8 o'clock
A. M., mustered as private into Company "," 12th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry, Apr. 23d, 1861. On General
Schenck's Staff, in West Virginia, July 2d; August
4th, at battle of Rich Mountain; July 13th, made Major,
17th Ohio Volunteer Infantry; Aug. 17th, went to
Kentucky, under Thomas; in September, at fight at
Wildcat; October 21, Mill's Spring; Jan. 19th,
1862, under Thomas, went with him to Nashville,
and with Buell to Pittsburgh Landing in the
middle of the fight April 6th and 7th. Always in
Thomas's Old Division, with various commanders of
it. Seige of Corinth, April, May and June, 1862.
Up the Tennessee and back across Tennessee to
Louisville, and at battle of Perryville, October 8th;
back to Tennessee, and at Stone River, December 31st;
January 1st and 3d, 1862, under Rosecrans;
through Tennessee to battle of Chickamauga, September
19th and 20th, commanded his regiment as LIeutenant-Colonel,
and was there wounded. Unfit for service for six
months. Commission Colonel in winter of 1863-4.
Regiment veteranized and Colonel Ward with
it. Chattanooga, April,

1864. ON Atlanta campaign, in all the fights, at
Resaca, Kenesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta,
Jonesboro' and all other fights, commanding his regiment
with his arm in a sling.
On account of his wounds, resigned, Nov. 8, 1864;
returned to Nashville and served without rank, as
volunteer aid to General Schofield; was in battle
of Nashville, under Thomas, Dec. 15-16, 1864,
which was his last fight; was one of the originators of
the Army of the Cumberland which was organized at
Cincinnati, February, 1868; retired from the service as
Colonel of the 17th Ohio Volunteer Infantry; was
Breveted Brigadier-General, for gallant and meritorious
conducted at Chickamauga, in winter of 1865.
Brigade Commanders were Shoepf, Walker, Steadman,
Phelps, Hunter, Connel, Turchin, and others.
Division Commander Thomas, W. T. Sherman, Brannon
and Baird. Corps Commanders (always in the
14th Corps), Thomas, Palmer and Jeff C. Davis.
Served under, and came in contact with, most of the
great soldiers of the war; McClellan, Rosecrans,
Buell, Thomas, Halleck, Grant, Sherman, Sheridan,
Hooker, McPherson, and Thomas.

WILTSEE, W. P.
CAPTAIN COMPANY "D," FREMONT'S
BODY-GUARD.
Entered the
army of Captain of Company "D," in a regiment called
"Fremont Guards," August, 1861, and served under
General Fremont in Missouri. His command was
mustered into the service for three years, but owing to
irregular organization - without State and number - it
was mustered out of the service on Jan. 8, 1862, by
order of General Halleck had the honor of
commanding the 4th Ohio Reserve Regiment, during the "Kirby
Smith Raid," in the fall of 1862.

WALKER, CHARLES HAYWARD,
1st LIEUTENANT, COMPANY "K," 45TH
MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER INFANTRY.
Served through
the war. His regiment, during its whole term of
service, was in North Carolina, under General Foster,
with head-quarters at Newberne. It participated in
nearly all the battles, skirmishes and expeditions in
that part of the country.
WEAVER JAMES W.
MAJOR AND SURGEON, 93D OHIO VOLUNTEER
INFANTRY.
Mustered
as Assistant Surgeon 93d Regiment Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, Aug. 17th, 1862. Was taken prisoner
while in charge of wounded and battle-field of
Chickamauga, Sept. 21st, 1863. Was taken to Libby
prison and retained until Nov. 26th, 1863. Was
appointed Executor Officer Hospital, 3d Division, 4th
Army Corps, Feb. 22d, 1865; remained as such until date
of discharge from service, June 8th, 1865.
Mustered out as Surgeon same regiment, June 8th 1865.
Participated in battles of Stone River, Liberty Gap,
Chickamauga, Dandridge, Resaca, Buzzard Roost, Kenesaw,
Chattahoochee River, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Franklin,
Nashville.
WOOD, E. E.
1ST LIEUTENANT AND ADJUTANT, 168TH OHIO VOLUNTEER
INFANTRY.
Served
as a private until he received the commission of 1st
Lieutenant.
WILSON, ROBERT BRUCE,
FIRST LIEUTENANT AND ADJUTANT, 194TH
REGIMENT OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY.
Entered
service, Apr. 12th, 1861, and was finally mustered out
in November, 1865. Joined A Company formed at
Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, for three months' service,
under original call

of President Lincoln, and was elected Fourth
Sergeant; Company was assigned as "F," of the 12th
Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Re-enlisted
with Campany and Regiment, for three years' service at
Camp Dennison, June, 1861, and appointed Second
Sergeant; promoted to Orderly Sergeant, 1861, and to
Second Lieutenant, Company F," 12th Regiment, Ohio
Volunteer Infantry, in 1862. Commissioned as First
Lieutenant and Adjutant, 194th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, March 16th, 1865.
Served under the following Brigade Divisions, and Corps
Commanders: Brigadier-General, J. D. Cox,
Kanawha Brigade; Brigadier General, E.
P. Scammon, 1st Brigade Kanawha Division;
Brigadier-General Benham, 1st Brigade
Kanawha Division; Colonel Carr B. White,
1st Brigade Kanawha Division; Brevet
Brigadier-General, A. G. McCook, 1st Division, A. of
S.;
Division Commanders: Major-General J. D. Cox,
commanding Kanawha Division, Army of West Virginia;
Brigadier-General E. P. Scammon, commanding Kanawha
Division, Army of West Virginia; Brigadier-General
Egan, commanding 1st Division, Army of Shenandoah.
Participated in the following engagements: Scary
Creek, Carnifex Ferry, both in West Virginia; Second
Bull Run, Virginia; Frederick City, South Mountain, and
Antietam, Maryland; and, in West Virginia -
Fayetteville, Princeton, Cloyd Mountain; also, in
Virginia - Lexington, Long Bridge, Lynchburg.
Served on the staff of Brigadier-General E. P.
Scammon, as Assistant Provost-Marshall, and on the
staff of Brevet Brigadier-General A. G. McCook,
as Acting Assistant Adjutant General of the 1st Brigade,
1st Provost Division, Army of the Shenandoah, from March
16th, 1865, to the close of the war.
WEST, BYRON D.
COMPANY "A," 6TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY.
Enlisted in the call for three months
troops, in 1861, and served until end of the war,
honorably, bravely, and faithful.

duties of Secretary of our Society; and we especially

of Cincinnati of Ex-Army and Navy Officers," now
being printed for distribution, in fulfillment of a
