     1. Samuel Lewis, a physician, settled at El Paso, Ill.;
     2. John Jackson, m. Cornelia E. Hutchinson, and settled at Wintersett, Iowa;
     3. Sarah Jane, m. (1st) in Carroll county, July 10, 1857, John Elder, Jr., b. in Washington county, Penn., 1799; d. in Carroll county, Ohio, 1866; m. (2d) Dec. 10, 1868, William H. Scott (had issue by first husband;

          ii. John S. settled in Holmes county;

          iv. Lissa;
          v. Clara S.);
     4. Joseph Alexander, m. Carrie E. Grizzell, and settled at Salem, Ohio;
     5. Margaret Ann, d. 1869; m. Uriah Coulson, an officer in the Civil War;
     6. Aaron Wylie, d. in Dallas, Tex.;
     7. George Nevin, served in the Civil War; d. at Cottonwood Falls, Kan., Nov. 14, 1890;
     8. Robert Harvey, m. Alice Miller, and settled in Jefferson county;
     9. James McMillan, served in the Civil War; removed to Washington, Iowa, where he m. Mary Young, daughter of Judge _____ Young; afterward settled at Cottonwood Falls, Kan.
      John Elder, b. in New York, about 1750; d. Dec. 16, 1840; his parents, who were natives of Ireland, emigrated to America and landed on the date of his birth; removed to near Buffalo, Washington county, Penn; m. Elizabeth McKinney, who d. aged sevent-five years; had issue:

     2. Mary, b. Feb. 12, 1793; d. Aug. 6, 1877;
