JAMES OGLEVEE,
emigrated from the North of Ireland and settled in East Nottingham township,
Chester county, Penn. (now Cecil county, Md.) before 1722 (probably a son
or brother of John Oglevee, who died in Cecil county, January,
1744, leaving a wife, Rachel, and children, James, Dorcas, and
Jean); d. 1751-53; m. Sarah ____; d. May 1753; had issue:
John,
Sarah, Jean, Margaret (m. ____ Boggs), and Violet (m. ____
Porter, and had two sons, James and John); his son, grandson,
or nephew, John Oglevee, died in Cecil county, January, 1797, leaving
children, John, Joseph, Mary, Sarah, Margaret, and Anne, of whom:
I. John, removed from Cecil county, Maryland, to
Fayette county, Penn., and thence, soon after 1800, to Harrison county, Ohio,
and settled on Bogg's Fork of Stillwater Creek, where he d. 1815; served in the
War of 1812; m. Mrs. Agnes Passmore Patterson, b. 1771-72; d. Aug. 11,
1853 (she had issue by her first husband, ____ Patterson:

Jane, m. Adam Dunlap, and settled in Harrison county;
2.
Mary, m. Robert Dunlap, and settled in Harrison county);
John and Agnes Oglevee had issue:
1. Elizabeth,
b. 1804; d. Dec. 5, 1881; m. 1827, John Bethele, son of Simpson and
Nancy Holloway Bethel;
2. William, b. 1808; d. July 6, 1884;
settled in Moorefield township; m. 1830, Susanna Price, b. near
Stillwater, Belmont county, 1811; d. May 26, 1879; daughter of John Price,
of English descent (a pioneer, who served in the War of 1812; his wife, of
Scottish descent); (had issue:

iii. Agnes, m.
Archibald Hammond of New Athens;
iv. David,
b. May 10, 1837; settled at Cadiz, 1889; m. October, 1866, Jane Ramsey,
daughter of William and Mary Ramsey [the former a son of John Ramsey,
one of the early settlers of Harrison county; the latter, daughter of
John Hines, also an early settler];
v. Hugh b.
in Moorefield township, Aug. 1, 1839; settled at New Athens; served in the Civil
War; m. in Belmont county, Aug. 16, 1866, Mary Brock Morris a native of
Harrison county;

Ann, m. Dewey Lantz, and settled in Belmont county;

Francis, b. Mar. 3, 1848; settled in Cadiz township; m. 1885, Agnes

and Ann Leonard Hanna (who removed from Rostraver township, Westmoreland
county, to Cadiz, in 1814); (had issue:

b. May 17, 1837; d. July 21, 1874; m. Samuel A. Osburn;

Hamilton, b. Sept. 10, 1838; settled at Clinton, Ill.; m. 1867, Elizabeth
A. Craig, daughter of Walter and Jane Moore Craig;
iii. John Finley,
b. May 16, 1840; m. (1st) Jeannette Eagleson; m. (2d) Euphemia
Eagleson; served as an officer in the Civil War, and as Auditor of the State
of Ohio; settled in Chicago;
iv. James
Wilson, b. May 12, 1842; d. May 23, 1863; served in the Civil War, and died
from disease contracted in that service;

Francis, b. May 20, 1844; d. June 12, 1845;
