JOHN
ZIMMERMAN (deceased) was born in Bind Sachsen, Germany, May
22, 1829, a son of Henry Zimmerman. He was reared in
the fatherland to farming, which was his father's occupation, and
there remained until eighteen years old, when with a married sister
he came to America, and for one year lived in Adams County, Penn.
He then moved to Wayne County, where he had another married sister,
and in 1865 he came to Ripley Township, Holmes County, where he
settled on forty acres of land owned by his father-in-law, and in
June 1872, he bought sixty-eight acres. He began his career a
poor boy, first working by the day or month, and in this way got his
start in life. He was marred in 1853 to Mary, daughter
of Jacob and Magdaline (Adenger) Schaaf, old settlers of
Holmes County. To Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman were born two
children: Jacob and John, latter of whom died at the
age of eighteen years. Mr. Zimmerman died Dec. 1, 1887;
his widow still lives on the homestead.
JACOB ZIMMERMAN, the only
son now living, has followed the occupation of his father, and has
now charge of the homestead farm. He was married in 1884 to
Miss Emma, daughter of Jonathan and Fietta (CampP Lebo,
of Bucks County, Penn., and has two children: Cloys Ellis and
Vera Blanche. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis and Vera Blanche.
Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman are members of the Presbyterian
Church; in politics he supports the Democratic party. |
