At Huron County, Ohio, on the 3d,
there was a curious attempt at marriage. It appears that
relations of intimate friendship had existed between Dr. R___ and
Miss B__, for some two years, which resulted in their presenting
themselves at the Episcopal Church for the purpose of marriage.
The rirst portion of the service, embracing the vows of the
bridegroom, was promptly responded to by him. The covenant of
the bride was then read by the clergyman, to which she promptly
answered "No!" The minister asked her if she was in earnest in
what she said. "Yes, sir," said she, "he has perjured himself -
trifled with the affections of others - and I have not done him
justice!" And turning round she took a gentleman's arm and left
the church. The Doctor says he don't understand it, and declares
his innocence. |
