WESLEY COFFMAN
This gentleman was born in Page County, Virginia,
June 16, 1822. He came to Ohio with his parents and settled
in Licking Township, June, 1828, where he remained until
October, 1828, when he moved to Newton Township.
On November 14, 1847, he was united in marriage to
Miss Maryetta Smith, who was born in Newton Township,
January 24, 1827. Peter Coffman, the father
of the subject of this record, was born in Page County,
Virginia, February 22, 1799, died in Newton Township,
January 7, 1868. Mr. Wesley Coffman's mother, whose
maiden name was Rebecca Lanham, was also born in Page
County, Virginia, 1796, and died from the effects of a
stroke of paralysis in Union Township, Licking County, June,
1873.
Mr. Coffman has been Justice of the Peace for
several years, and is a man of sterling integrity.

Mr. Conine was the third son and fifth
child of Jacob C., Sr. and Sarah Lawrance Conine.
This esteemed couple had a family of nine children. Jacob,
Jr. was born in Morris County, New Jersey, November
9, 1808. He was reared on a farm, which occupation he
has always followed. His advantages for education were
limited, yet by reading, observation, and reflection he
has a well-stored mind. In 1825 he commenced as an
apprentice to the carpenter and joiner trade, and
continued to work at the same till 1840 and for several
years since he has worked at it more or less. In
December of 1821 young Jacob located in this
Township, on the farm now owned by L. Pheaster.
On the 15th of January, 1831, he was married to
Paulina Buckland, of Harrison Township. She
is the daughter of Samuel and Phoebe
Sanford, who were natives of Connecticut, but
subsequently of Vermont. They were among the earliest
settlers in Harrison Township, going there in 1817. Miss
Buckland was born February 22, 1810 in Rutland
County, Vermont.
Mr. and Mrs. Conine have reared a large and
interesting family, namely: Phoebe Ann,
born December 6, 1831; William, born October 22,
1838; Maria E., born October 18, 1835; Samuel
H., born August 5, 1837; Nelson H., born May
19, 1839; Harriet E., born March 11, 1841;
Sarah S., born June 6, 1843; Jacob, born
March 13, 1845; Alpheus L., born October 14,
1847; Emily J., born December 27, 1849; James
S., born September 14, 1854. Nelson H. was
wounded May 6, 1864, in the battle of the Wilderness,
and soon after died. In politics, Mr. Conine
is a Republican. He and his wife are members of the M.
E. Church, and are held in high esteem by their
neighbors. In April of 1831, Mr. Conine
settled on the farm he now owns. It consists of one
hundred acres or so, and is a good state of cultivation.
All but three of his his children are settled in life,
and have carried with them the principles taught them in
early life.
