Members of the Latty Family Being Removed
Mrs. A. S. Latty, of Defiance, is having a family
crypt built in the cemetery at that place to place therein all the
members of the Latty family. And she is having the contents of
two Paulding graves removed thereto. One is that of Judge
A. S. Latty's first wife, and the other his daughter, Anna
Latty Ice mother of Mrs. Floyd Atwill.
Mrs. Latty was buried fifty-four year ago, and
Mrs. Ice was interred in 1873.
Last Saturday the work of opening these graves was
begun. They were not in the cemetery, as there probably was no
cemetery here when Mrs. Latty was buried. These two
graves were on the Latty estate on the bank of the
creek a few rods south of the old Latty house, on South Main
street.
The first casket found was a metallic one, which was
intact and was undoubtedly that of Mrs. Ice. It was
full of water. It was taken to Michael Bros.
undertaking rooms and the water removed and the casket prepared for
shipment. The cloth trimming and burial clothes were still
there, and some portions of hte bones of hte lady interred, but
decomposition had nearly eliminated the corpse.
The other grave was opened Monday. Nothing was
left of the casket and only a few of the bones remained.
