Salem Twp. -
GEORGE C. KALBFLEISCH - His parents,
Adam Kalbfleisch and Mary Kimpel, both deceased, came
into this county in 1834. George C., was born
in Belmont county, Apr. 15, 1835. Married Oct. 1,
1865, to Jane Davis, who was born in Belmont county,
Feb. 3, 1844. Her parents, Jacob and Mary (Crozier)
Davis, settled in this county in 1845. Their
child, Mary, was born May 30, 1879. Mr. K's
brother, John, was a soldier in the late war, in the
116th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He was
severely injured, from which he lost one of his limbs;
served three years. Mrs. K's brother, Thomas
Davis, enlisted Dec. 12, 1862, in the 77th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry, served until the following April, when
he was taken prisoner in the battle of Pittsburg Landing,
was in several southern prisons, and finally died of
starvation, on his way to be exchanged, and was taken off
the train at Petersburg, West Virginia, Nov. 17, 1863.
Mr. K's people settled in Switzerland township when
it was very new, few settlers, no roads, only bridle-paths
through the woods, and their nearest neighbors were over a
mile away. Mr. Jacob Davis has held the offices
of justice of the peace, township clerk, assessor, and has
taught school for thirty years in succession. He is
now living in Salem township, at the advanced age of 73
years, and his wife is hale at the age of 67 years.
They reared a family of twelve children, all living reside
in this township but Jacob, who is a local preacher
in Missouri.

Seneca Twp. -
WILLIAM KENT - is a son of John
Kent, a native of this county, and Elizabeth Danford,
who was born in Monroe county (now Noble). He was born
in Monroe county (now Noble), Jan. 27, 1842; was married in
this township by Rev. Wm. D. Lowry, Nov. 27, 1863, to
Mary J. Blake, daughter of James Blake (deceased)
and Roseann Archer. She was born Oct. 8, 1842.
Children: Elizabeth A., born Sept. 27, 1864, died
Jan. 202, 1881; John B., Dec. 27, 1867; Estella C.,
Nov. 5, 1872. Mr. Kent is a farmer and
stock-dealer of Seneca township. Postoffice,
Summerfield, Noble county, Ohio.

Centre Twp. -
JOHN KERR - was born in county
Sanquher, Dunfriece, Scotland, February 15, 1808, where he
was married, Oct. 28, 1829, to Jenette Davidson, who
was born in the county of Hedington, Scotland, Nov. 15,
1805. Their family are: Mary, resides at home;
Andrew, deceased Elizabeth,
deceased; Jenette, deceased;
John, deceased; Elizabeth,
deceased; William, resides in Andrew
county, Missouri; John, deceased; George
resides in Centre township; Jenette and Andrew.
John's (the subject of this sketch) parents, are both
deceased. Their names were Andrew and Grace
(Morris) Kerr. His wife's parents were John
Davidson and Mary McFarland, the latter of
Highland extract. They are both deceased. Two of
Mr. Kerr's sons, William and John, were
in the war of 1861, both being members of the 116th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry, enlisting at Woodsfield, Aug. 16, 1862.
William was lieutenant of Company A; served until
November, 1864, when he resigned on account of his health.
John served one year, and died at Sharpsburg,
Maryland, of disease contracted in the army, Aug. 11, 1863.
Mr. Kerr was appointed to fill the office of
treasurer of this county in the stead of Judge Linn,
deceased, and was elected the two following terms.
When he entered the office county orders were worth fifty
cents; when his time expired they brought one hundred cents.
He is a farmer and stock raiser, having resided here since

Adams Twp. -
PETER KING - was born in Greene county,
Pennsylvania, Oct. 2, 1807 and came to Ohio when he was a young man in 1830,
settled in Greene township, this county, where he married, and entered a farm of
120 acres, cleared his farm, built up a home, where he remained until the year
1866, when he removed to Adams township, his present home. His wife,
Sarah Hickman, was born in Monroe county, Jan. 27, 1812, and
married Oct. 24, 1830. Her parents, William and Mary (Greene)
Hickman, both deceased, were also among the earliest settlers of the
county; came in 1825. Mr. King's parents are also
deceased. They were John and Christene (Yager)
King. The children of Peter King are all living,
namely: William, born Oct. 18, 1831, resides in this township;
Christina (Conley), Dec. 17, 1834, resides in Wetzel county, West Virginia;
Mary (Stewart), May 16, 1837, resides in Adams township;
John H., Aug. 18, 1840, resides in Jackson township;
Henry, June 22, 1844, resides at home. Mr. King
served as justice of the peace in Greene township from 1846 to 1858, inclusive.
Mr. and Mrs. King have been members of
the Christian
church for thirty years. Business, farming. Address, Ozark, Monroe

Salem Twp. -
CHARLES KLEBE - is a native of Monroe
county, having been born in Switzerland township, June 20, 1854.
The personal history of his father's family is recorded in the
sketch of his brother, Christian Klebe. He was
married at Wheeling, West Virginia, Feb. 14, 1877, to Lizzie
Gussie Kreiger, who was born in Germany, June 1, 1856,
daughter of John and Caroline (Weideman) Kreiger, the
latter deceased. Three children have been
born to them, namely: Gussie Mary, born Dec. 20,
1877, died Dec. 23d, the same year; Charles William, born
Jan. 5, 1879; Emma Elizabeth, born May 13, 1881.
Mrs. K's parents came from Prussia Pommern, Germany, in May,
1871. They settled at Wheeling, West Virginia, where they
lived five years, then at Tildensville, Jefferson county, where
Mrs. Kreiger died, July 13, 1878, and in the spring of
1881 Mr. Kreiger came to Salem township, where he now
resides. Mr. Klebe is engaged in a general farming
business in Salem township. His address is Clarington.

Salem Twp. -
CHRISTIAN KLEBE - is engaged in general
farming in Salem township. Was born in Berks county,
Pennsylvania, July 25, 1847,a nd came with his parents,
Christopher and Elizabeth (Boettner) Klebe, into this county
in 1847. Christian was married in Switzerland
township, Mar. 21, 1875, to Fannie Freudiger who was born
in that township, Feb. 26, 1842. Her parents were John
and Elizabeth (Smits) Freudiger, (the latter died Mar. 3,
1871), who settled here in 1843. Children: George
Wilhelm and Caroline Elizabeth, born July 17, 1876;
John E. born June 4, 1878, died Aug. 22, 1878; Clara
L., born Nov. 22, 1879. Mr. Klebe's first
marriage was Dec. 4, 1869, to Nancy Ann, daughter of
John and Rosa Case. She was born June 11, 1847, died
Jan. 31, 1874. Children of first marriage: Charles
Franklin, born July 28, 1871; Anna E., born Oct. 12,
1873, died Feb. 12, 1874. Mr. Klebe's father came
from Germany in May, 1847, and settled in Berks county,
Pennsylvania. After six months they came to Monroe county,
and located near the centre of Switzerland township, where they
remained about eight years, and then removed to their present
residence in the northern part of Salem township. Mr.
Klebe, senior, is still living, one of the substantial
citizens of his county. Mrs. Klebe's father came
from Berne, Switzerland in 1832, landed at New York, and came at
once to this county. He here married the widow of John
Haudenschild, (Elizabeth Smits), and entered a farm
of eighty acres in Switzerland township. He sent scholars
to the first school taught in the township. He is still
living, hale and hearty, aged 74, and has his second wife,
Elizabeth Heinlein, whom he married in 1877. Address,

Centre Twp. -
ANDREW KNOCK, Sr. - and Thomas Kellen,
both natives of Germany, the former born in Baden, Nov. 22,
1818, the latter in the same place, May 20, 1838, were married
at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jan. 10, 1854. Their children
are: Andrew, born Nov. 21, 1854, resides at home; M.
Magdelen, Jan. 22, 1857, died Nov. 12, 1862; Emma (Nauer),
Jan. 2, 1862, resides in Malaga township; Joseph, Oct. 8,
1864, at home; Margaret, Jan. 17, 1867, at home; Susan,
Feb. 28, 1869, at home; Martin, Jan. 11, 1872, at home.
Andrew's parents, Martin and Helena (Reineck) Knock,
are deceased. John and Theresa (Saefar) Kellen, are
Mrs. Knock's parents, the former deceased. Mr.
Knock is a farmer, settling in this county in1 859.

Washington Twp. -
JOHN KNOWLTON – was born in Washington county in 1803, came into this county
in 1836, and was married to Elizabeth Luckey in 1830. His father,
William Knowlton, was born in 1777,
and his mother, Eunice McVey, Mar. 3,
1783. His wife was born in
West Virginia
in 1805; her parents Joseph and Tabitha
(Phillips) Luckey, are now deceased.
Children: C. B., born Sept. 7,
1832; Phoebe B. (Edington), Nov. 17,
1834; Elizabeth (Wallace), Nov. 21,
1845; Dorcas (Christy), Jan. 17,
1838; Maria (Scott), May 11, 1840;
John, Feb. 25, 1849, died Aug. 29,
1850. All these living reside in
this township.
Mr. Knowlton is a thrifty, well-to-do farmer. He
settled here when the country was comparatively new, and by economy and strict
attention to business has amassed considerable property. He has been a member of
the Methodist Episcopal Church for sixty-one years, and his wife for fifty-eight
years; has held the offices of steward, class-leader, and trustee, and all his
children are Christians. His
grandfather, Robert Knowlton, served
in the Revolutionary war under General
Washington, and his father was in the war of 1812. Postoffice, Graysville.

Perry Twp. -
WILLIAM T. H. KOONTZ - is a son of
Peter F. Koontz and Ann Speck. He was born in
Monroe county, Ohio, Sept. 26, 1850. His wife was
Alice E. Swarts, to whom he was married in Brownsville,
Ohio, July 8, 1875. She was born in Sistersville, West
Virginia, Mar. 23, 1852. Her parents were James
Swarts and Sarah Hill. The children of Mr. and
Mrs. Koontz are Harry F., born Aug. 25, 1876,
lives at home; Oscar E., Oct. 21, 1877, died July 21,
1878; Frank M., Sept. 30, 1879, died July 21, 1881.
Mr. Koontz is a resident of Perry township, and is
engaged as a general merchant. Postoffice address,
Antioch, Monroe county, Ohio.

Seneca Twp. -
CHR. L. KRONING - is engaged in the
mercantile business in Calais, Monroe county. He is a
son of Charles Philip Kroning and Emma Eggers,
and was born in the independent city of Bremen, Germany,
Dec. 18, 1846, and settled in this county in 1868. His
wife, Lydia Louisa Atkinson, daughter of Mitchell
T. and Nancy (Greeneltch) Atkinson, who came here in
1802, was born in Seneca township in March, 1846. They
were married here May 29, 1871, and have four children,
namely: Charles, born Dec. 22, 1872, died Sept. 10,
1873; Johannes August, Feb. 4, 1875; Frederick
Philip, Apr. 5, 1877; Carleton Gustavus, Mar. 26,
1881. Mr. Kroning's father is one of the few
early settlers that are still living at this date, March,
1882. (See his personal history - Mitchell Atkinson).
Mr. Kroning has been clerk of Seneca township since,
