  Jackson Twp. -
WILLIAM AKERMAN, son of John and Nancy Akerman, was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, 17th of April, 1810, and came to Allen County in 1834.  He married Kezia, daughter of Andrew and Letitia Carroll.  Mrs. A. was born in Washington County, Ohio, 17th of May, 1814.  They have eight children: Samuel, John, Jane, James, Mary, Albert, Newton and Ruth.  Mr. A. has one brother, William Akerman, and two sisters, Jane and Maria.  Mrs. A. has three sisters, Margaret, Sabina and Ruth.  Mr. Akerman has held the office of county commissioner nine years, and township trustee ten years.

Auglaize Twp. -
REV. JOB D. ALLERTON, Pastor of the Regular Baptist Church ("Mount Zion") near West Newton, was born Sept. 4, 1838, in Stark County, where his parents, Samuel and Amelia Allerton, still reside.  They formerly lived in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.  They have seven children - Job D., Andrew O.., Cordelia A. (deceased), Clara E., Samuel (deceased), George W. A. and Amos V. Allerton.  Mrs. J. D. Allerton was Sarah A. Smith.  Her parents, John W. and Mary Smith, removed from Pennsylvania to Stark County, Ohio, where they still reside, and where Mrs. A. was born, Mar. 5, 1834.  Following are the names of Mrs. Allerton's brothers and sisters: Elizabeth, Matilda, Solomon W., Jacob J., Lovina, Amanda C., George K. and Rebecca J. Smith.  Although Mr. Allerton has lived in this county less than two years, he has had charge of his present congregation for four years, and is now permanently located with them.

Richland Twp. -
RUDOLPH ALTHAUS was born in the canton of Basle, Switzerland, in the year 1823.  His parents are Heinrich and Barbara Althaus.  Names of his sisters and brothers - Mary, Barbara, Elizabeth, Henry, John, Gothart, Catherine, John (deceased), and Gothart (deceased).  His wife was born in Wayne County, in 1841.  Their children are Mary (deceased), Andrew and Werner.  Mrs. Althaus was Barbara Amstutz.  Her parents are, Peter and Barbara.  She has a sister, Anna, and three brothers - Peter, Joseph and John.

Amanda Twp. -
SAMUEL ANDERSON, son of Samuel and Catharine Anderson, and brother of Robert, Hugh, William and Thomas, was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, in the year 1822.  He married Mary, daughter of John and Mary Swancott, whose children are Elizabeth, William, Michael J. and MaryMrs. Anderson was born in Butler County in 1817.  They have one child, M. Jane Anderson, born in this county, Dec. 4, 1867.

  German Twp. -
GEN. WM. ARMSTRONG was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Dec. 3, 1798.  His first wife was Harriet McMillen.  His second wife was Catharine King.  He is now living with his third wife, Hannah, daughter of Samuel and Joanna McClellan.  She was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, Feb. 11, 1808.  Gen. Armstrong is the son of John and Elizabeth Armstrong.  He has one brother, Martin Armstrong.  Mrs. Armstrong has one brother, Martin Armstrong.  Mrs. Armstrong has two brothers, Wm. and Andrew McClellan, and one one sister, Hannah.  Gen. Armstrong's children are John M. (deceased), James A., Margaret A. (deceased), Emeline E., Capt. Martin Armstrong (killed at the battle of Shiloh), William K. and Harriet C.
     In 1841, Gen. Armstrong came to this county; in 1843 he was elected Brigadier General of Ohio Militia; in 1854 he was elected county Treasurer; and re-elected in 1858; and in 1869, he wa elected Representative in the State Legislature, in which office he served two years.

  Salem Twp., Auglaize Co., OH (in Miscellaneous are of this Volume)
JOHN W. ARNOLD, lives in Salem Township, Auglaize County, He was born in Hampshire Co., Virginia, now West Virginia, June 22, 1844.  His wife, Matilda Robbins, was born in Auglaize County, Apr. 18, 1849.  Her parents are James and Celia RobbinsMr. Arnold has been clerk of Salem Township two years.  Children of John W. and Matilda Arnold; Clarence, Loren (deceased), Albert Burr, Loretta May, Ida Belle (deceased), and Roy Carleton.  Mr. A. is a son of J. S. and Martha Arnold.

  Ottawa Twp. -
DR. FRANCIS G. ARTER, son of Simon and Elizabeth, was born in Columbiana County, Apr. 2, 1838.  His wife is a daughter of Samuel and Charlotte McCune, and was born in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, Mar. 9, 1847.  They have one child, Zelmae McCune.  Dr. Arter's brothers and sisters are, Belinda A., Maria H., Daniel A., Samuel E., Anthony H., Aaron B., Cordelia A., Jerutha C., Simon M. and David L.

  Ottawa Twp. -
FRANCIS ASHTON, son of Francis and Elizabeth Ashton, was born in Lincolnshire, England, Mar. 9, 1831.  He married Mary, daughter of Abraham and Magdalena Lantz.  She was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, Jan. 9, 1833.  They have five children: Libbie M., May R. A., John R., Fannie B., and Hattie B. Ashton.

MATT ATMUR is a son of Levi and Louisa Atmur.  He was born in Champaign County, in the year 1837.  His wife, Martha, was born in Auglaize County, in the year 1840.  Their children are John C., William J., and F. L. Atmur.  His brothers and sisters, living, are Marshal, Mary A., J. H., Elizabeth, Lucy, Emmie, William, Eliza, Martha and Hattie.

  Amanda Twp.
WILLIAM BICE was born in Columbiana County in the year 1824, and came to Allen County with his parents, William and Mary Bice, in 1839.  His wife's parents, Dye and Mercy Sunderland, came from Miami County in 1822.  Mrs. B. was born in this county in 1836.  Her children are Frances, Orlando, Amarilla, Ann M., William A., Mary, Mercy N. and Andrew W. Bice.  Mr. Bice's brothers and sisters are Mary, Samuel, Jeremiah, Charles, Granville and Thomas.  The children of Dye and Mercy Sunderland are Daniel, James, George, Mary J., Elizabeth A., Isabel, Martha E. and Tabitha.  Mr. Bice has held the office of Township Trustee.
