Auglaize Twp. -
THOMAS B. CHENEY was
born in Union County, July 30, 1836, and was wife was
born in Mercer County Pennsylvania, on the 24th
September, 1842. Their children are Lelen S.,
John Q., Orph., George B. and Charles W.
Mr. C.'s parents are John and Sarah Cheey.
He has one brother, Jonathan. Mrs. Cheney
was Mary T. Talk, daughter of Gideon and
Hannah Talk. She has three sisters: Lydia, Sarah
J., and Melinda E.; and one brother, Levi
Talk.

Richland Twp. -
ALVAH CLARK, of the firm
of Clark and Franks, Bluffton, is the son of
Jonathan and Hannah Clark, who had a family of
twelve children. They came to this county in 1854,
from Mahoning County, where Alvah was born, Sept.
26, 1845. His wife was Victoria McConnell
daughter of J. T. and Eliza McConnell. She
was born in Hancock County, Mar. 15, 1848. They
have three children, Aura, Maggie and Bertha.

Marion Twp. -
JOHN CLEMENT and his
wife are both natives of Germany. He was born in
1843 - she in 1845. They have four children -
Anna, John, Mary and Peter.
Mr. Clement's parents, John and
Mary Clement, still live in Germany.
They have eight children - Mary, Michael,
Louis, Anna, Helena, Catharine,
Mary Ann and John. Mrs. C.
is a daughter of Peter and Eva
Shuck, who came to Allen County in 1850, and whose
children are, Adam, Peter, John, Caroline, Joseph,
Jacob, Burney, Martin and Anna.

Richland Twp. -
ALEXANDER J. CONRAD
was born in Switzerland, Jan. 4, 1830, and came to Allen
County in 1851, with his parents, John and Elizabeth
Conrad, whose children are John, Jacob and
Alexander. His wife was born in Switzerland,
Nov. 8, 1833. Their children are Elizabeth,
Emma, Alexander, John, Jacob, Lena, Henry and an
infant. Mrs. C. is a daughter of John
and Elizabeth Baumgartner, whose children are
John, Benedick, Elizabeth, Mary and Annie.

CHARLES CRITES,
son of John Daniel and Catharine, was born in
Berks County. Pennsylvania, July 25, 1809. In 1812
his parents removed to Pickaway County, Ohio, where
Charles learned the trade of blacksmithing and
acquired the elementary principles of an English
education, although he never had any of the advantages
of a common school. He worked at blacksmithing from 1827
to 1842, but has since been chiefly engaged in farming.
In 1835 he had saved sufficient to purchase a piece of
wild land in this county, and in 1839 he came from
Pickaway County and settled on his land, where he now
resides. Mr. Crites has held many public and
private trusts. In 1840 he was commissioned
Captain of Militia, and in 1844 Captain of Light
Infantry. From 1843 to 1849 he held the office of
Justice of the Peace. He served two terms
(1852-1862) as District Land Appraiser. He was
Representative in the State Legislature in 1853-4. From
1849 to 1874 he took out letters of administration for
seventeen different estates. He has also held
various township offices. Mr. Crites
married Sophia, daughter of Jacob and
Mary Ludwig. She was born in Northumberland
County, Pennsylvania, July 14, 1813. Their
children are Daniel L., Jacob S., Catharine,
Elizabeth, Rebecca, Cyrus and Elias, Emanuel, Mary
Ellen, George W., and Frederick S. Mr.
Crites is brother of Samuel, Reuben, John,
Juliana, Cyrus, Amos, Levi, Catharine, Jacob and
Elias.

DANIEL L. CRITES,
son of Charles and Sophia (Ludwig) Crites was
born in Pickaway County, Oct. 30, 1833. His wife
of Matha, daughter of Griffith and Rachel John,
who came from Ross County in 1832. Mrs. Crites
was born in this county, Sept. 25, 1853. Their
children are Bertha W., born Mar. 12, 1856;
Tirzah Keren Feb. 7, 1858 - both born in this
county. Mrs. Crites has three brothers and
four sisters living; Mr. C. has five brothers and
four sisters. Mr. Crites has held a number
of public offices; he has been Township Assessor and
Land Appraiser, Surveyor of Putnam County, Auditor and
Deputy Clerk of Allen County, and was First Assistant
Clerk of the Ohio House of Representatives, 61st General
Assembly.

ELIAS CRITES
and his wife, Leannah (Mowery) Crites, are both
natives of Pickaway County, and their children were all
born in that county, viz.: Mary Celena, born June
25, 1852; John Daniel, born Sept. 23, 1855; and
Willison Williard, born May 3, 1858. Mr.
Crites was born June 25, 1825. He is a son of
John Daniel Crites and Catharine Crites, and
brother of Charles, Jacob, etc. Mrs. Crites
is a daughter of John and Rachel Mowery.

JACOB CRITES,
son of John Daniel and Catharine, and brother of
Samuel, Charles, Amos, Levi and Elias, was
born in Pickaway County in 1822, and at the age of 20
settled in this county. His wife was born in
Warren County in 1822. Their children are Mary
A., Stephen D., Emeline, Henrietta, Obed, Cyrus D.,
Daniel H., and
Sarah A. Mrs. Crites
is a daughter of James and Elizabeth McDonel, who
came from Champaign County in 1833, and whose children
are, James, Mary, Elizabeth, Lydia, Sarah C., and
Nancy A. Mr. Crites has held several township
offices.

Ottawa Twp. -
ELIJAH CURTISS, M. D.,
is the son of Abner and Persis Gurriss, and
brother of Daniel, Maria, Persis, Sarah, Mary, Anna
and Joel. He was born in Berkshire
County, Massachusetts, on the 11th of April, 1812.
He married Flora F., daughter of Elijah
and Elizabeth Hanchet. Their children are
Charles L. and Mary E. Mrs. Curtiss was
born in Herkimer County, New York, on the 21st of June,
1818. She has a sister, Elizabeth; and one
brother, Hiram. Dr. Curtiss has practised
medicine continuously for 40 years, and has been Coroner
of the county.
