FRANK B. EAGLETON,
of Knox Township, is a substantial citizen of Columbiana
County and a member of a well known pioneer family. He
was born on a farm between Salem and Lisbon, Dec. 15, 1879,
and is a son of Thomas and Margaret (Badger) Eagleton.
Thomas Eagleton was born in Massachusetts in 1836
and died in 1881. His wife was a native of Salem
Township and died in 1897. Mr. and Mrs. Eagleton
had four children: Julia, deceased was the wife of
Clyde Oyster; Carrie, married Harry Paxson, lives
in Salem; Clarence E., lives in Salem Township; and
Frank B., the subject of this sketch.
Frank B. Eagleton received his education in the
schools of Salem Township and worked in the mines of this
section for five years. He then became connected with
the telephone business and was employed throughout Ohio and
Pennsylvania. He later went to California, where he
spent four years in telephone work and upon his return to
Ohio he settled at Alliance, where he served as a member of
the police force for eight years. In 1919 Mr.
Eagleton organized the Westville Summer Resort in Knox
Township, which has proven a successful undertaking.
There are a group of 14 cottages and one of the finest small
lakes in this section of the state, which he became a
popular fishing resort. He also has other land
holdings.
In 1906 Mr. Eagleton was united in marriage with
Miss Minnie Winkler, of Kent, Ohio, who died in 1910.
A son was born in them, Lester Raymond, born Mar. 25,
1908. On Dec. 23, 1918, Mr. Eagleton was
married to Miss Flornce Hively of Starke County,
Ohio, a the daughter of Thomas and Ella (Naylor) Hively.
They have had two sons: Forrest Franklin, born Oct.
16, 1919, died in infancy; and Frederick Thomas, born
Mar. 21, 1925.
Mr. Eagleton is a Republican and a member of the
Methodist Church and Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He is favorably known in Columbiana County and has a wide
acquaintance.

A. EARL EDWARDS,
city treasurer of East Liverpool, is one of the progressive
young men of Columbiana County. He was born in
Berkley, Calif., May 13, 1891, and is the son of F. F.
and Alice (Gaston) Edwards.
F. F. Edwards, proprietor of the Edwards
Hotel in East Liverpool, is a pioneer business man of
this section. His wife was a native of Columbiana
County and the daughter of James Gaston, one
of East Liverpool's earliest settlers, who served for many
years as justice of the peace. Mrs. Edwards
died in 1921 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery. Two
sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards: William,
a professor at Wentworth Institute, Boston, Mass.; and A.
Earl, the subject of this sketch.
A. Earl Edwards received his education in the
public schools of East Liverpool, being graduated from high
school in 1911. He was a traveling representative for
the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for several years, and
later engaged in the hotel business with his father.
In 1921 he was elected a member of the city council and two
years later was elected city treasurer, which office he has
since filled.
In 1912 Mr. Edwards was married to
Miss Mary Johnston, of Wellsville.
Her mother, Mrs. Johnston, who resides in East
Liverpool, has served as active head of the W. C. T. U. in
East Liverpool for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards
have five children: Frank, William, Amanda,
Robert Gaston, and Mary Alice.
Politically Mr. Edwards is identified
with the Republican party. He is a member of the First
Presbyterian Church and is affiliated with the Independent
Order of Odd Fellows. He is an enterprising citizen
and is widely and favorably known throughout the county.

ERASTUS E.
EELLS, mortician, is among Lisbon's
reliable and representative business man. He was born
in Lisbon, Mar. 24, 1879, and is the son of Leonard Hanna
and Minerva J. (Chain) Eels. Leonard Hanna
Eells was the son of Erastus E. and Mary Ann (Ramsey)
Eells.
Erastus Eells, deceased, was a prominent pioneer of
Columbiana County. He was born on Clapboard Hill, New
Canaan, Fairfield County, Conn., Aug. 9, 1808. The
first of the Eells to cross the ocean was John,
who came over in 1628, and returned to England in 1640,
taking his son Samuel Eells, who was the first
Eells born in America, born in 1639. This son
returned to America in 1661. He was a prominent
lawyer, a major in King Phillips War, and died
in Massachusetts in 1709. Erastus Eells was the
son of Samuel Eells. Erastus
Eells' great-grandfather, Rev.
John Eells, of Milford, Conn., was the first
minister of New Canaan, having charge of the Congregational
Church as early as 1733. Jeremiah B. Eells was
also a native of New Canaan, Conn. The father of
Erastus Eells was Nathaniel Eells.
His wife was Elizabeth Hoyt, daughter of
Justice Hoyt, a Baptist minister of New Canaan,
Conn. The family came to Columbiana County as long ago
as 1817, locating near New Lisbon, where Nathaniel
Eells died in August, 1823. They had nine
children: Eliza, Alvira, Polly,
Nathaniel, Hannah, Emeline, Electious,
Erastus and George. Erastus
Eells remained on the home farm in Elk Run Township
until 1824 when he came to New Lisbon and entered upon an
apprenticeship to learn cabinet making with Joseph
Ledlie, with whom he remained three years. After working
as a journeyman one year he opened a shop of his own in 1828
and was perhaps one of the oldest cabinet makers and
undertakers in the State of Ohio. Mr. Eells was
one of the original abolitionists of Eastern Ohio and became
one of the most active and trusted agents of "the
underground railroad" 25 years before the war, and the
freedom of many a slave was due to his courage and untiring
efforts.
Erastus E. Eells, subject of this sketch, has
spent his entire life in Columbiana County where he conducts
the undertaking business which was established by his
grandfather, Erastus E. Eells. His
establishment at Lisbon is among the up to date and well
appointed funeral homes of the state and is the 2nd oldest
in the United States.
On Feb. 14, 1901, Mr. Eells was united in
marriage with Miss Jane B. Rees, the daughter of
Elias and Mary Rees, both deceased. Mr. and
Mrs. Eells have three children: Myron Erastus,
born Feb. 13, 1902, a graduate or Ohio State University,
engaged in business with his father, married Miss
Esther Steel of Lisbon, is a Mason and a member
of Alpha-Tau Omego Fraternity; Gerald V., born June
4, 1904, a graduate of Ohio State University is a Mason and
member of Alpha-Tau Omego Fraternity, and Roger G.,
born Sept. 7, 1908, attends Ohio State University.
Politically Mr. Eells is a Republican.
He is a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is a
32nd degree Mason and a member of the Independent Order of
Odd Fellows, Kiwanis Club and Knights of Pythias. He
is a substantial and well known citizen and his family
stands high in the community.
