  DR. J. S. GALLAGHER, physician and surgeon of Salem, who has been successfully engaged in the practice of his profession here since 1907, is a highly esteemed citizen of Columbiana County.  He was born at Fairview, W. Va., June 6, 1860, a son of David and Sarah Ann (Tobin) Gallagher.
     David Gallagher
was born at Fairview,, W. Va., and engaged in farming and stock raising during his life.  He died at the age of 79 years.  His wife, a native of Ohio, died in 1870.  They had four children: Ruth, died at the age of 23 years; J. S., the subject of this sketch; Allison, lives at Swedesville, Ohio; and one child died in infancy.
     Dr. J. S. Gallagher obtained his early education in the public schools and then entered the medical school of Western Reserve University, Cleveland, from which he received his degree in 1887.  He practiced his profession at Beloit, Ohio, for seven years, spent one year in Macedonia, Ohio, and in 1907 removed to his present location.  He has an excellent practice and is known as a thoroughly capable man in his profession.
     On June 20, 1888, Dr. Gallagher was united in marriage with Miss Eliza Brown, the daughter of John and Jane Brown.  Mr. Brown, who lives retired with Dr. and Mrs. Gallagher, is a veteran of the Civil War.  His wife is deceased.  Dr. and Mrs. Gallagher have four children: Byron, lives at Myron, Ohio; Ruth married Raymond Ingram, lives at Salem; roscoe, lives in Pittsburgh; and Esther, married Chester Smith, lives in Pittsburgh.
     Politically, Dr. Gallagher is a Democrat.  He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Elks Lodge.

  D. H. GAMBLE, a well known business man of Salem and substantial citizen of Columbiana County, is a native of Columbiana County.  He was born near Kensington, May 28, 1873, and is the son of Jacob and Margaret Jane (McMillen) Gamble.
     Jacob Gamble
was born in Columbiana County in 1825 and died in 1893.  He was a carpenter by trade, but also followed general farming.  His wife, was a native of Carroll County, died in 9101.  Mr. and Mrs. Gamble had the following children: James William, deceased; David Alfred, deceased; Nancy Matilda, deceased; John A.; Mrs. Jane J. Rakestraw; Mrs. Mary A. McBride, George W.; C. A. and D. H., the subject of this sketch.
     After completing his schooling, D. H. Gamble learned the tinner's trade and in 1889 located at Salem, where he entered the employ of W. G. Fawcett.  After a number of years Mr. Gamble purchased the business, which has since been known as Gamble's Tin Shop.  It is located at 117 North Howard Street.  Mr. Gamble has an extensive business and has numbered some of the city's largest contracts in his work.
     On Feb. 13, 1894, Mr. Gamble was united in marriage with Miss Mary E. Coburn, of Salem, the daughter of Nathan and Harriet (Carl) Coburn, both deceased.  Three children were born to them; John George, deceased; Carl, has been in the employ of the Mullins Body Corporation at Salem for the past 15 years, married Augusta Sheen, and they have two children, Carl, Jr., and Evelyn; and Clark Carry, married Cora Brown, lives at Salem.

  W. H. GAMBLE, a prominent druggist of East Liverpool, is a member of one of the old and well established families of Columbiana County.  He was born in this city, July 19, 1879, and is a son of John and Mary (Manley) Gamble.
     John Gamble was born in Canada, the son of Robert Gamble, who came to this country from Belfast, Ireland, in 1830.  He spent some time in Canada and died at Canal Dover, Ohio.  His son, John, one of East Liverpool's leading business men, learned the brick layer's trade at the age of 13 years and when 17 years old became a building contractor in partnership with Harry Surles, at one time postmaster of East Liverpool.  Later he conducted a brick yard with Will Surles on the present site of the china works at Minerva and Huston Streets.   Mr. Gamble later sold his interest and is at present a member of the firm of J. E. Gamble & Company, brick contractors.  They have built more pottery kilns than any other concern in the United States, and Mr. Gamble has also had extensive business interests in Canada.  He has also built some of the finest business buildings and residences in the city.
     Mary (Manley) Gamble was born in East Liverpool and is a daughter of Holland and Mary (Cartwright) Manley, who came to this country from England and settled in East Liverpool, where he worked at his trade as a potter.  Later with his brother-in-law, William and Samuel Cartwright, Mr. Manley founded the Manley-Cartwright Pottery Company.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Manley are now deceased.  To Mr. and Mrs. John Gamble were born five children:  W. H., the subject of this sketch; Bessie, resides with her parents; E. L., a Playwright, is also engaged in the drug business with his brother; Gladys, married Dr. Leon Lemmon, a physician of Cleveland, Ohio; and Grace, married Ernest Howard, an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad, lives at Wellsville, Ohio.
     W. H. Gamble was graduated from the public schools of East Liverpool and from the School of Pharmacy, University of Pittsburgh, in 1901.  He is a registered pharmacist in both Ohio and Pennsylvania.  After leaving school he spent some time at Rochester and McKeesport, Pa., later coming to East Liverpool where he was associated with Charles Craig, druggist.  In 1904 Mr. Gamble became a member of the drug firm of W. C. Lynch and Laben Wilson.  He later became sole owner and the business is known as Gamble's Drug Store, and is located at 401 Market Street.  This business was established in 1884 by A. H. Fleming, and later sold to W. W. Robinson.  It was formerly located on East Fourth Street.
     In 1905 Mr. Gamble was married to Miss Mary C. Aten, native of Wellsville, Ohio, and a daughter of Henry and Lydia (Dever) Aten, both deceased.  They have three children: Marion, deceased; Helen, a student at East Liverpool High School; and Dorothy.
     Mr. Gamble
is a Republican, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and one of East Liverpool's representative citizens.

  THEODORE GANAS, a well known and successful business man of East Liverpool, is a World War veteran.  He was born in Sparta, Greece, May 25, 1890, and is the son of George and Anastasia (Pappas) Ganas.
     George Ganas
is a prosperous farmer of Greece and owns 500 acres of land near Sparta, where he is extensively engaged in the raising of the land near Sparta, where he is extensively engaged in the raising of Grapes, wheat, figs and dates.  One of his orchards contains 2000 olive trees.  He is also engaged in the manufacture of Olive oil.  To Mr. and Mrs. Ganas were born 13 children, as follows:   Mary, married Speros Merigias, lies in Greece; Peter, lives in East Liverpool; Nick, lives in East Liverpool; Pete, lives in Greece; Theodore, the subject of this sketch; Mike, lives in East Liverpool; Bill, served in the Greek army during the World War, lives in East Liverpool; Angela, deceased; Geanoula, Daria, Polexani, Soterous and Tomasis, all of whom live in Greece.
     Theodore Ganas received his education in the schools of his native land and in 1903 came to this country.  He spent several years in Pittsburgh, where he engaged in the restaurant business, and in 1909 in settled in East Liverpool.  In 1914 he established his present business, which has developed into the largest bowling and billiard alleys in the city.
     In 1918 Mr. Ganas volunteered for service in the World war and served with the 156th Depot Brigade, 2nd Provisional Headquarters Company, Camp Jackson, S. C.  He was discharged in April, 1919.
     Mr. Ganas is identified with the American Legion and LaSociete des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux.

  JESSE R. GILCREST is among the enterprising business men of East Liverpool, where he is proprietor of the East End Machine Shop.  He was born at Wheeling, W. Va., Aug. 4, 1863, and is the son of John B. and Laura C. (Brainard) Gilcrest.
     John B. Gilcrest, deceased, was a native of Brilliant, Ohio, born Jan. 1925.  Mr. Gilcrest was a stone contractor and the owner of large stone quarries in Ohio.  He died July 7, 1875, and is buried at Brilliant, Ohio.  He served throughout the Civil War with the First Virginia Volunteer Infantry.  To Mr. and Mrs. Gilcrest the following children were born: James B., lives at Mt. Pleasant, Pa.; Harry, died May 2, 1923; Jesse R., the subject of this sketch; Frank, deceased; Lulu, the widow of James M. Smith, lives at Follansbee, W. Va.; and Eugene, deceased.
     Jesse R. Gilcrest spent his boyhood in Ohio.  He attended the public schools, learned the machinist's trade, and at an early age entered the employ of the Spaulding Iron Works at Brilliant.  He was later connected with the Laughlin Iron Company at Mingo Junction, Ohio, and the H. L. Machine Company, at Toronto, Ohio, which he successfully conducted for 20 years.  During this time he was also connected with the Toronto Foundry & Machine Company as general manager.  He later purchased the Davis-Price Foundry & Machine Company of New Cumberland, W. Va., which he conducted for two years.  In May, 1924, Mr. Gilcrest came to East Liverpool, where he established the East End Machine Shop.  He is also an inventor of note and holds many patents.
     On April 7, 1923, Mr. Gilcrest was married to Miss Doris E. McDaniels, of East Liverpool, the daughter of L. M. McDaniels.
     Politically, Mr. Gilcrest is a Democrat.  He is a Mason.

  DR. WILLIAM N. GILMORE, of East Liverpool, ranks among the leading physicians and surgeons of Columbiana County.  He was born at Elkton, Columbiana County, Mar. 15, 1858, and is the son of Noah and Margaret (Crawford) Gilmore.
     Noah Gilmore was a native of Madison Township, Columbian County, born Oct. 1, 1835, and the son of William and Catherine (Lewis) Gilmore, both deceased.  William Gilmore was born in Pittsburgh and was the son of William and Susie (Fisher) Gilmore both natives of Pennsylvania.  Margaret (Crawford) Gilmore was born at Williamsport, Ohio, Nov. 29, 1836, the daughter of Thomas and Jane (Slagel) Crawford, natives af eastern Pennsylvania, who located at an early date in Williamsport, Ohio.  Noah Gilmore was a well-known agriculturist of this section for many years and died in April, 1907.  His wife died in 1919, and they are buried at Lisbon, Ohio.  To Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore the following children were born: William N., the subject of this sketch; Hattie, born Oct. 27, 1859, married J. C. Ross, lives at Akron, Ohio; John F., George C., and Ella May, all deceased; and James A., born in July, 1872, married Effie Warren of East Palestine, Ohio, and they reside at Lisbon, Ohio.  He is connected with the Victor Stove Company of Salem, Ohio.
     Dr. William N. Gilmore was educated in the district schools of Madison Township and attended Poland (Ohio) Academy.  He then taught school for two terms before entering the medical school of Western Reserve University, Cleveland, from which he was graduated in 1882.  He then established offices at West Point, Ohio, where he practiced continuously until 1909, at which time he removed to East Liverpool, where he has a well established practice, with offices in the Dollar Savings Bank Building.
     On Nov. 8, 1882, Doctor Gilmore was married to Miss Susie Switzer, who was born at Lisbon, Ohio, April 7, 1858, the daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Zimmerman) Switzer, both deceased.  Doctor and Mrs. Gilmore have a son, Lloyd S., born at Lisbon, April 11, 1885.  He was married to Miss Alice Sellers of Wooster, Ohio, and they have two children: Frances Evelyn, born Sept. 6, 1912; and William Lambert, born Nov. 12, 1914.  Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore live at East Liverpool.  He is a graduate of Wooster University in the class of 1906.
     Doctor Gilmore is identified with the Columbiana County Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.  Both he and his wife are members of the Presbyterian Church and are highly esteemed throughout their community.
