Cyrus Benjamin Stose
SPENCERVILLE,
.Jan. 4—Cyrus Benjamin Stose, 70, died at his home in N.
Main-st at noon Wednesday. Surviving are his wife, Clara;
three daughters, Mrs. Ed. Kelley, Mrs. William Steiger and
Mrs. Mark Burnett, all of Spencerville; two sons, Elmer, of
Spencerville and Jay, of Mendon; two brothers, Allen, of Van
Wert and Charles, of Spencerville; and a sister, Mrs. Emma
Moore, of Whiting, Ind. Funeral services will he held at 2 p.
m. Saturday at the First Federated church with Rev. P. L.
Curtiss, pastor, officiating. C. B. Miller and Son,
Spencerville, are in charge of funeral arrangements. Burial in
Spencerville cemetery.

John David Sudmoeller
DELPHOS,
Jan. 12 — John David Sudmoeller, 83, died at his home, 702
Bank-st, Thursday night after a long illness. Born of pioneer
parents here, Sudmoeller lived in Delphos all his life. His
parents came from
Germany
and were among the early settlers in the community. Sudmoeller
was a retired carpenter and widely known thru out this
section. He was a member of
St. John's
Catholic church and was affiliated with the Sacred Heart
league and with the Catholic Knights of Ohio. He is survived
by his son Clarence of this city and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Monday in
St. John's
church. Burial will be in
St. John's
cemetery. The body was removed from the Jauman-Kolkmeyer
mortuary Friday afternoon to the residence.

Anna
S. Stemen
Complications
resulting from a broken hip caused the death of Anna S. Stemen,
85, wife of Isaac C. Stemen. at 5:30 p. m. Tuesday at her home
in Elida. Mrs. Stemen, a native of Perry-tp, had resided in
Allen-co all her life.Besides her husband, she is survived by
two sons, Ora Stemen. Pryer,
Okla.
; Ralph. of Eldorado, Ivan.; two daughters, Mrs, Frank Shrider,
Van Wert; Mrs.. Grace Saunders, Chillecothe; and a brother, John
Bamngardner, Elida. Time of services has not been
set but they will be held at the Elida M. E. church, with Rev.
R. C. Hurley in charge. Burial will be in
Salem
cemetery. The body will be removed from the Davis-Miller and Son
funeral home to the residence Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs.
Catherine Stemen
Mrs.
Catherine Stemen, 71, of Delphos Route 2, died at 9 p. m.
Thursday at her home after an illness of two weeks. Mrs.
Stemen had suffered a stroke two weeks ago.She
is survived by a son, Dwight, with whom she resided; one
daughter, Mrs. Edith Brenneman, of Elida Route 1; two
brothers, Martin Stemen, of Pickerington, and
Andrew Stemen. of
Chambersburg
,
Pa.
; a sister, Mrs. F. C. Winglier, Pataskala; and one
grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m.
Monday at the Morris chapel, of which she was a member, with
Rev. R. 0. Hurley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Salem
cemetery, two miles south of Gomer. The body will be removed
late Friday from the Huffer funeral home to the residence.

Charles L. Scott
Charles Lee Scott, 2 month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Scott,
442 E. Pearl-st, died at 7:30 p. m. Thursday in St. Rita's
Hospital after and illness of a week. Born Aug.7, the child is
survived by his parents; four brothers ( five) Daniel , George,
Perry, and Alex (also Steven Jr.): all at home; four sisters Mrs.
Catherine Delph 612 E. Eureka st., and Mary, Helen, and Linda ,
all at home. His oldest brother James was killed in 1944 in Italy
in battle. Final rites will be at 10:30 a. m. Saturday in the
Chiles and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Thomas in charge
. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery . The body will remain
at the funeral home until buried. in Memorial Park

Lima Private Killed in Action
James S. Scott dies in Italian Zone
Pfc. James S. Scott, son of Mr.. and Mrs Steve Scott 442E. Pearl
St. was killed in action April 12, 1944 in the Italian combat
zone. This information was received by his parents in a War
Department telegram Saturday. Complete details were not given but
a letter of explanation is expected to follow. Scott, an
infantryman enlisted in the service Dec. 2, 1942, and received his
basic training at Van Dorn, Mich. He was then transferred to Ft.
Dix, NJ , and went overseas Dec. 26 , 1943. While in Lima he was
employed at Manhattan Cigar store and the Columbia confectionery.
A brother Daniel is serving with the Air Corps in Italy. In
addition to his parents and Daniel he is survived by four sisters
Catherine, Mary, Helen and Linda at home; four brothers George,
Perry, Alex, and Steve at home; Mrs. Sarah Goldsmith, grandmother, of Westminster.

Killed in Action( picture) _ Pfc James S. Scott , son of Mr and
Mrs. Steve Scott 442 E. Pearl St. was killed in action April 12,
in the Italian battle area, his parents have learned from the War
Department . First announcement of Pfc. Scott's death was made in
last Sunday's Lima News.

2 AREA MEN DIE . 2 MISSING IN BATTLE ZONES.
Two area soldiers killed in action and two missing in action in
the Mediterranean area were included in the casualty list made
public by the War Department. Their families have been notified.
Reported killed in action are
Pfc. James S.
Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Scott of 442 E. Pearl
St. and Pfc. Joseph M. Giesken ,son
of Mrs. Rosa A. Giesken of Delphos Rt. 2. On the " missing" list
are Staff Sgt. George A. Deringer , son of Ora J. Deringer of Ada
and Sgt. Rasmond J. Schira son of Charles A. Schira of Carey
Route 2.
The Lima soldier was killed April 12 in the Italian combat zone,
his parents were notified. He was an infantryman in service since
Dec. 2, 1942 and overseas since Dec. 26, 1943. before entering the
Army he was employed at the Manhattan cigar store and the Columbia
Confectionery Sweet Shoppe.

Shope
William
Shope, 77, retired,, died at H a. m. Friday at his home in Bath-tp,
after an illness of seven years. He was a lifetime resident of
Allen-co. He is survived by two sons. Henry and Alfred, of Lima
Route 1; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Cook, of Canton; four
brothers, John, of Lima; Manuel, of Delphos; Centennial, of
Wapakoneta, and Andy of Bakerstfeld, Calif., and four sisters.
Mrs. Mary Shobe, of Joplin, Mo,; Miss Catherine Shope and Miss
Rebecca Shope, both of Delphos and Mrs. A. E. Simms, of Lima.
The body will remain at the Davis, Miller and Son funeral home,
where services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday. Burial will be
in Fletcher cemetery.

Sullivan
Michael Sullivan, 77, well-known retired
Lima
policeman, died at 7:10 a. m. Monday at the home of his cousin.
Mrs. Charles Gast, 1071 N. Main-st, after an illness of two weeks.
Sullivan, born in Cahireiveen,
County Kerry
,
Ireland
, came to the
United States
at the age of 16 and settled in
Lima
. For several years he was a professional wrestler at the old
Musical hall, Faurot Opera House-bldg. He was appointed to the
police force June 4, 1900, and retired Sept. 16, 1922. Sullivan
was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic church and Holy Name
society. He is survived, besides his cousin, by a sister, Miss
Mary Sullivan of
Ireland
. and several nephews and nieces, among them Sister Mary Aquin.

Toledo
. Requiem high mass will be held at the St. Gerard church at a
time to be announced. Rev. Joseph Breslin, rector, will be
celebrant, and Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery. Due to
sickness in the Gast family, the body will remain at the
O’Connell and Doolin Funeral Home until time of services.
