  JOSEPH PATTERSON, of Scotch descent, b. in county Down, Ireland, April, 1799; emigrated with his parents to New York in 1811, thence removed to Pittsburg, Penn., and later to Harrison county, Ohio, settling in Cadiz township, 1852, where he d. 1879; m. Feb. 14, 1822, Jemima Hoagland, daughter of James Hoagland, of Stock township (had issue, eleven children, of whom:  i. J. C., b. Aug. 30, 1835; served as an officer in the Civil War; m. Sept. 7. 1865, Mary Ann Simpson, daughter of John and Margaret Simpson; ii. James H., settled in Cadiz township).

  JAMES H. PATTON, a native of Pennsylvania, b. 1785-6; d. Oct. 3, 1860; served in the War of 1812; settled in Short Creek township, Harrison county, Ohio, in 1816; m. Jane Walker, b. in Pennsylvania, Sept. 13, 1789; d. June 6, 1880; had issue, among others:  1. John Walker, b. 1818; d. Sept. 7, 1890; m. Dec. 30, 1846, Anna Braden, b. near Cadiz, July 25, 1820; d. Feb. 10, 1883 (her parents were pioneers in Harrison county); (had issue:  i. Robert B., a United Presbyterian minister, settled in Columbus, Ohio;  ii. Esther M.); 2. Rachel S., b. 1826; d. Nov. 20, 1845;  3. William, b. 1831; d. 1841.

Sept. 21, 1881; m. Nov. 6, 1834, Jane Hamilton, b. June 28, 1813; d. Feb. 8, 1878; daughter of Francis and Ruth Hamilton; had issue:  1. Florella; 2. Thomas; 3. Francis Hamilton; 4. Hannah Mary;  6. Joseph Rollins;  6. William Boyce, b. Apr. 9, 1849; settled at Bowerston; m. May 29, 1870, Martha Ann Weyandt, daughter of Abraham Weyandt;  7. Chastina Ann.

  JOHN PORTER, a resident of Nottingham township, Chester county, or of Drumore township, Lancaster county, Penn., had issue, among others, three sons:  Robert, Samuel, and James, of whom: Robert, settled in Washington county, and Samuel and James in Harrison county, Ohio.  Of these sons:
     Robert Porter, served in the Revolutionary War; settled near Canonsburg, Penn.; had issue, among others:
     I. John, served in the War of 1812.
     II. James T., b. near Canonsburg, Penn., 1786; d. in Cadiz township, Feb. 24, 1836; m. Mar. 31, 1812, Elizabeth Porter, daughter of Samuel and Sarah /burns Porter; had issue:  1. Mary; 2. Sarah;  3. Elizabeth;  4. Samuel, d. young;  5. Samuel T.;  6. Robert;  7. Elizabeth (2d); 8. Jane; 9. Rebecca; 10. Margaret.
     Samuel Porter, native of Pennsylvania, b. 1765, of Scotch-Irish descent; removed with his brother, James, to Cadiz township, Harrison county, Ohio, in 1802, where he d. Aug. 2, 1869; m. in Pennsylvania, Sarah Burns, b. Aug. 15, 1786; d. 1830; had issue:
     I. John, d. 1831.  II. James.  III. Elizabeth, b. in Pennsylvania, Apr. 1, 1794; d. in Cadiz township, May 4, 1863; m. 1812, James T. Porter, of Scotch-Irish descent, b. near Canonsburg, Washington county, Penn., 1786; d. in Cadiz township, Feb. 24, 1836, son of Robert Porter, who served in the Revolutionary War, and whose son, John, served in the War of 1812.
     IV. David, b. in Washington county, Penn., Feb. 5, 1802; d. Dec. 22, 1885; m. Theresa Stone, b. in Belmont county; d. 1859; had issue: 1. Sarah; 2. John D., b. Jan. 14, 1839; m. Mar. 7, 1876, Mary Isabelle Porterfield, daughter of Alexander and Sarah Warnock Porterfield of Belmont county;  3. Mary;  4. James, d. in infancy;  5. Samuel B., b. in Athens township, Oct. 8, 1843; settled in Green township; m. 1864, Margaret Dickerson, daughter of John and Eliza McFadden Dickerson.
     V. Samuel, d. Aug. 2, 1869.  VI. Jane.  VII. Mary.  VIII. Smiley, b. 1807; d. in Morgan county, Ohio, 1865, where he had settled about 1853; m. Margaret Dugan, a native of Pennsylvania, b. 1808; d. 1875; had issue:  1. Caroline;  2. Margaret, d. in infancy;  3. Mary, twin sister to Margaret; settled in Noble county;  4. Catherine, m. Samuel Marquis, of Noble county;  5. Sarah Jane, m. John Harper, of Morgan county;  6. Samuel settled in Cadiz township;  7. John, settled in Belmont county;  8. Irwin, b. in Cadiz township, 1854; settled in Cadiz township; m. Dec. 25, 1888, Ida McFarland, a native of Harrison county.  IX. Nancy, d. in infancy.  X. Irwin, b. Mar. 8, 1814; settled in Cadiz township.  XI. Sarah.
     James Porter, who came to Ohio with his brother, Samuel, in 1802, was born 1766; d. in Cadiz township, 1836; m. 1807, Margaret Oglevee, b. in Maryland, 1776; d. May 25, 1851; daughter of John Oglevee, of Scotch Irish descent; had issue:  1. Joseph;  2. Elizabeth;  3. John; 4. Ann;  5. James, b. Aug. 29, 1818; d. unm.;  6. Augustus, b. Feb. 18, 1822, d. unm.

  JOHN PRITCHARD or PRICHARD was born in Wales, 1775 (son of Jesse Pritchard, who was born in 1750); emigrated to America with his father, 1785, settling at Frederick, Maryland, whence, in 1795,  he removed to Uniontown, Fayette county, Penn., and from there to Cadiz, Ohio, in 1807; d. June 28, 1844; m. Feb. 7, 1798.  Sarah Beeson Bromfield, b. Jan. 7 1782; d. Sept. 15, 1877; daughter of Captain Benjamin (1745-1824) and Mrs. Mary White Bromfield ( or Brounfield); had issue:  1. Mary, b. May 18, 1800; d. May 13, 1825; m. 1816, Daniel Kilgore, d. 1850 (had issue: i. Narcissa, m. Charles Paulson, of Pittsburg; ii. John P., m. Mary, daughter of Rev. Alexander Wilson, of Cadiz and Philadelphia);  2. Jesse, b. July 3, 1802; d. 1835; m. 1825, Jane S. Lacey (had issue:  i. William Lee, b. 1826; d. unmarried;  ii. John, b. 1827; d. 1847;  iii. Martha Jane, b. Sept. 13, 1829; m. Daniel Spencer;  iv. Sarah, b. July 29, 1831; m. William V. Keepers, of Uhrichsville, Ohio; v. Jesse, b. Dec. 17, 1830; removed to Gilpin county, Colo., in 1859, and thence to Leavenworth, Kan.;  vi. Clara J., b. December, 1834; m. Thomas J. Forbes, of Coshocton, Ohio);  3. Nancy, b. Oct. 27, 1804; d. Sept. 6, 1897; m. Chauncey Dewey (for issue, see Dewey Family);  4. Maria, b. April 3, 1807; m. William Lee (had issue:  i. James;  ii. Emma;  iii. Albert;  iv. William;  v. Elizabeth, m. Samuel Hilles, of Barnesville, Ohio);  5. Benjamin, b. Nov. 3, 1809; m. Mary Deardorff (had issue;  i. Sarah;  ii. John);  6. Eliza, b. Feb. 4, 1812; m. William Houston, of Wheeling, West Va.
