MOSES MORTON
was born
in Pennsylvania in 1786, and married Elizabeth Covert,
who was born in 1796, some time after they settled here.
Abram, the youngest of their eleven children, was
born in 1835, and in 1859 married Delilah Grier,
daughter of Isaac Grier, of Oxford, who was
born in April, 1837. They have since lived on the home
farm of one hundred and sixty acres. Their children
were: Jasper W., deceased; Jenny E., Mary
S., Alla, Montie, and John R.

LEONARD ORME
JOSEPH B. TURKLE
was born
in Londonderry township in 1847, and married Mattie
Cowgill in 1876. She was a daughter of Ralph
Cowgill, of Belmont county, and was born in 1854.
Their married life was spent in Fairview, and there Mrs.
Turkle died in 1877. Their only child is named
Mattie Estella. Mr. Turkle began business in 1871
at Fairview, in partnership with Abraham H. Atherton,
in the mercantile trade, and continued until 1880, when his
brother, J. Walter, purchased Atherton's
interest. J. Walter Turkle was born in 1858,
and married Miss Laura S. Gilliland, daughter of
William Gilliland of Belmont county. She was born
in 1860. They are living in Fairview, where Mr.
Turkle is engaged in business with his brother, the firm
name being J. B. Turkle & Bro.

MRS. ELIZABETH BOYD
is the daughter of William Smith, who was born in New
Jersey in 1796, and who came to Ohio when a young man.
He was married to Margaret Irwin, of Richland county.
She was born in1802. After marriage they lived here.
In 1830 she died and in 1855 he moved to Kansas where he
died in 1871. They had eleven children of whom four
are living, viz.: Joseph O., John W., Matilda, and
Elizabeth. The latter was born in 1827 and in 1848
married George Boyd, who was born in 1813. They
spent their married life on the farm which he bought of
Mr. Smith, and he died in 1876. Mrs. Boyd
now lives there and owns four hundred and fourteen acres of
land. Their children are: William A., Mary J..,
Alice L., Carle C., Ira B., and Ora L.

ABRAHAM H. ATHERTON,
merchant at Fairview, is the son of John Atherton,
who was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, in1786, and of
Ann Harner, daughter of Abraham Harner, of
Chester county also. Mrs. Atherton was born in
1795, married in 1809, and died in 1833. After
marriage they lived in Chester county, where her husband
died in 1836. His occupation was that of farmer and
carpenter. Five of their eight children are living,
namely: Elizabeth, widow of, John Batton; Baldwin;
Ruth E., widow of Adam Boller; Abraham H., and
Mary, wife of John Unstead. Abraham H. Atherton
was born in 1827, and married, in 1853, to Sarah H.
Cranston, who was born in 1831, and who died in 1868.
Their two children were named Amanda L., and Mary,
wife of Thomas Bratton. In 1869 Mr. Atherton
married Mary Ann Grier, daughter of Isaac Grier,
of Oxford township, who was born in 1836. Since 1868
he has been a merchant in Fairview.

JOHN KENNON
ANDREW SCOTT was born
in Ireland in 1744 and married Mary Ann Stewart, a
countrywoman, who was somewhat younger than himself.
James, their oldest child, was born in county Down,
Ireland, in 1791, and in 1826 married Margaret Cross,
who was born in his native county in 1799 and who died in
1845. In 1829 they emigrated and settled here and
purchased six hundred and forty acres of land. Three
of their four children are dead, viz: Mary, Jane,
and Charles. Their only living child, John
Scott, was born in Ireland in 1826 , and when three
years old was brought here. In 1857 he married Mary
Ankney, daughter of Peter B. Ankney, of
Washington, who was born in 1839. They have since
lived at Middletown. They have seven children, viz:
Jenny, Maggie, Bertie, Belle,
Emmitt, Carrie, and Harry.

ZACHARIAH
BERRY was born in Noble county, Ohio, in 1805,
and married Rachel Elliott, who was born in Belmont
county in 1799. They lived in Wayne township, Noble
county, until he died in 1850. The widow was living
with a daughter in Union county, Ohio. They had five
children, viz.: George E., Nancy J., Samuel,
William, and Hannah. William was born in
1838, and in 1861 he married Margaret Head, of Oxford
township, who was born in 1844. In 1865 they purchased
one hundred and eighty acres here, and moved from Noble
county. They live on the farm with their seven
children, viz.: Charles E., James W., Marion S.,
Franklin M., Harry E., Nettie A., and Minnie I.
Mr. Berry was township trustee one term, and school
director for eleven years.
JOHN CARTER's
father, Joel Carter, was born in Chester county,
Pennsylvania, in 1772, and married Margaret Reynolds,
who was born in Lancaster county, in 1776. He died in
Chester county in 1854, and his wife died there in 1820.
Six of their thirteen children are living, viz: John,
Samuel, Enos, Isabel, Sarah, and Margaret A.
John was born in Chester county in 1803, and moved to
Ohio county, West Virginia, in 1827. In 1834 he became
a miller in Muskingum county, Ohio, and in 1841 married
Mary Scott, who was born in 1818. They lived five
years in Belmont county, and ten years in Monroe county,
seven years near Hannibal, on the Ohio river, and sixteen
yeas in Belmont county, and then bought John Wells'
farm here, where they are living with their six children,
viz: Hannah, Henry, Philip, Levi, John, and
Samuel. He owns two hundred and seventy acres of
land and is a general farmer.

BORTON came from New Jersey to Ohio in 1804
and settled in Oxford township, near what is now Fairview,
entering one section of land. His family consisted of
eight children , of whom James was the fifth.
James was born in New Jersey in 1801, and married
Maria Wilson in 1821, who was born in Loudoun
county, Virginia, in 1801. She died in 1851 and he
died in 1869, leaving nine children, of whom six are living:
Reuben, William, Martha, Lewis W.,
Caroline V., and Louisa. William
Borton was born in 1826 , and in 1848 was married to
Charity Dillon, who was born in 1822. He lived on the old
homestead, where his wife: died in 1867, leaving eight
children: Winfield . S., James W., Martha M., John
W., Irena I. (deceased ), Harry (deceased),
Lora E., and Mary L. Jan. 31, 1872, he married
Mary C. Herron. Every year Mr. Borton
distills from five in nine hundred dollars' worth of oil of
sassafras, pennyroyal, peppermint, and worm seed , mostly
sold to New York drug houses.
