MATTHEW DOYLE, was born in
Ireland in 1765, and emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1790.
While living in Philadelphia he was married to Hannah
McMahan, in 1795. She was born in 1763. In 1814
they left Pennsylvania and moved to Wills township, where he
entered one hundred and sixty acres of land, and lived on
his farm until he died, in 1835. His widow lived there until
her death in 1847. Two of their five children are
living, viz; Michael, in Indiana; and John.
John was born in Pennsylvania in 1800, and in 1840
married Sarah Williams, daughter of Samuel and
Susan Williams, of this township. She was born in
1818. They have lived since then on the homestead.
Their children are: Samuel W., Matthew, George A.,
John S., Andrew, Emily J., Mary A., and Susan C.
Mr. Doyle owns four hundred and eighty acres, and has
taken a great interest in the cause of education. He
was a school director and a very efficient one, too. -

NATHAN PURDUM was born in
Maryland in 1797, and married Rebecca Hutchinson, who
was born in 1800. They cultivated a farm in Montgomery
county, Maryland, until his death, in 1841. Of their
ten children the following are living: Westley B.,
who married Sarah Watkins and lives in
Senecaville; Elisha G., twice married and living in
Washington; Nathan, Rulandus C., and Elijah F.,
a surgeon. Mrs. Purdum married Archibald
Shipman and settled in Guernsey county, Ohio, where
Mr. Shipman died in 1868. His wife followed him in
1879. Her son Rulandus married Sarah Wyrick,
and has made Wills township his home since, though he spent
five years traveling and visited the gold fields of
California. Three of their four children are living,
viz: George R., married to Mary Clagett;
Jacob M. and William. Mr. Purdum has always
been a general farmer. Pg. 519
JOHN FRAME and his wife,
Elizabeth Beatty Frame, were born in the same year - the
husband in Pennsylvania and the wife in Ireland, in 1772.
Seeking to better their fortunes they came to Wills township
in 1810. They found this section a lonely region, but
lived to see it a populous and thriving locality. He
died in 1860 and she is 1848. They had seven children,
of whom five are living, viz.: Catharine, wife
of Samuel Finley, of Cumberland; James, in
Senecaville; John, here; Susan, wife of
John Caldwell, of Noble county; and David.
David was born in 1814, and married Elizabeth,
daughter of Martin and Mary Thompson, of Richland
township, in 1842. They settled on the old homestead,
and Mrs. Frame died there in 1880. Nine of
their ten children yet live, viz: Mary J., wife of
Benjamin Secrest, of Cambridge; John S., Armantha C.,
Elizabeth, Dorcas, Alice J., Charles, Finley A., and
Sarah, wife of Preston Weaver. Martha is
dead. - Page 519
JOHN JOHNSON was born in
Pennsylvania in 1788, and married Mary Burns.
They settled in Buffalo township, then in Guernsey county
but since transferred to Noble county, and remained there
until their death. Seven of their eleven children are
living namely: Jane, wife of William Crow, of
Indiana; James and Jessie, in Indiana;
William B.; Ebenezer; and Martha, wife of
Josiah Laughlin. William B. was born in
Guernsey county in 1826, and married Deborah,
daughter of Alexander Laughlin, in Richland township
in 1853. They lived in Spencer township ten years, and
came to Wills in 1871 and still live here. To them
were born five children, viz.: Mary J., wife of
Charles Spratt, of Center township; Emma A., Alva W.,
John A., and Lillie J. Mr. Johnson has held
many local offices. - Pg. 519
ISAAC PARKER was born in
1780 in England. He married Hannah Graham, who
was born in England also. They emigrated to Fayette
county, Pennsylvania, in 1815, where they remained three
years, then came to Ohio and settled in Jefferson county.
In 1826 they returned to Pennsylvania, Washington county,
where Mr. Parker died in 1845 and Mrs. Parker
in 1844. Their family consisted of nine children, of
whom three are living: William; Isaac, who
resides in Illinois; and Joseph, who lives in
Pennsylvania. William was born in England in
1813. He came to Ohio with his parents, and in 1837
was married to Jane White, who was born in 1813 and
died in 1844, leaving three children, viz: Henry G.,
who lives in Cambridge; Caroline and George deceased.
In 1845 he married Polly A. Smith, who was born in
1823. They first settled in Washington County,
Pennsylvania, and remained There until 1848, then Removed to
Belmont county, where they resided one year, then lived in
Bridgeport three years. In 1859 they came to Guernsey
county, where they now live. - Pg. 519
MRS. MARY ROBE'S FATHER, GEORGE
COOK, was born in Ireland in 1778. He emigrated
from Ireland to Pennsylvania when he was quite young.
He was united in marriage to Mary Robb, who was born
in Pennsylvania. They remained in Pennsylvania a few
years after marriage, then they came to Ohio, settling in
Wills township, Guernsey county, where Mr. Cook
died in the year 1836, and Mrs. .Cook died in 1867.
The family consisted of nine children, of whom seven are
living, viz.: David, who lives in Coshocton county;
John, who lives in Missouri; Robert, living in
Logan county; Josiah, living on the hold homestead;
Mary, Nancy, and Jane, living on the
homestead. Mary, the subject of this notice,
was born in 1813. In 1837 she was married to
William Robe died. Mrs. Robe is still
living there. Her family consists of seven children,
viz: Amanda, wife of James Leech; Josiah,
deceased; Culvertson, John, William, George, and

ELIJAH LOWRY was born in
Maryland in 1802. He came to Ohio, when quite young,
with his parents, who settled in Richland township, this
county. He married Mary Richey, who was born in
1810. A short time after their marriage they removed
to Wills township, where Mrs. Lowry died in the year
1868. Mr. Lowry then went to live with his
daughter, and has lived with her since. Their family
consisted of five children - Margaret and John A.,
deceased; Elizabeth J., wife of John B. Smith,
of Columbus; Mary C., wife of John Horrah, of
Kansas; Isabel R., wife of Roland S. Frame.
Lavina was born in 1835. In 1851 she was
married to Samuel Ferguson, who was born in 1829, and
died in 1858. After their marriage they settled in
Madison township, this county, where they remained fifteen
years, and then came to this township, where Mrs.
Ferguson still lives. Their children are as
follows: Mary L., deceased; Ellen J.,
wife of John K. Law; Lemon; Melvin N.; Emma,
wife of John P. Price, and Clarence L.

COLONEL WILLIAM COCHRAN,
father of Emaline Stout, was born near a place called
Hickory, in Pennsylvania, in the year 1793. In 1798
his parents brought little William to their new home
in Wills township, near Middlebourne, and he lived there
until his marriage with Martha Henderson and
settlement on a farm about two miles south of Middlebourne
in 1818. This was his home until he moved to
Middlebourne in 1863. His wife died in 1851, and
married Ruth Hazelet in 1852. This lady having
died in 1868 he married Mary Moore in 1870. He
died in 1878. Emaline was one of his thirteen
children, and is now the widow of Josiah Stout.
This couple lived for some years in Guernsey and Washington
counties, and in Clay county, Indiana; lived in Oxford
township for ten years, and finally settled on a farm one
mile west of Middlebourne, in Wills township, where Mr.
Stout died in 1872. Mrs. Stout is still
living. They had twelve children, of whom eight are
living - William C., a physician in Oxford, Holmes
county, and married to Hattie Morgan; Mary D.; George,
husband in Lizzie Hayes; Martha, wife of William
B. Hayes; Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Frank.
Their sons Joseph and Jacob helped defend the
country in the late "unpleasantness."

HUGH WOODBURN was born in
Ireland in the year 1800, with their seven children, sought
a home in America, and three more children were added to
their family after arrival here. Their son Hugh
married Elizabeth Conway in 1849, and became is
widower in 1872. Hugh and his wife lived in
Center township for four years, and then moved to Wills
township, where he is living at present. They had
eight children, of whom the following are living:
John C., married to Annie Yeo; Sarah Ann, now
Mrs. Harman Atherton; Mary E., Margaret, Martha Jane,
William B., and Elva P. Mr. Woodburn owns
four hundred acres.

JOHN LaRUE was born in
Loudoun county, Virginia, in 1801. He came with his
parents to Richland township in 1808, and his mother and
father passed their lives there. John married
Rebecca Ballard, who was born in this county in 1811.
He settled in Wills township, and lived there until his
death in 1877. His widow now lives with her son -
Samuel R. Ten of their twelve children are living -
James, Stephen R., Hamilton, La Van, John S., Samuel R.,
Mary M., Elizabeth, Judson and Eli J. The
farm contains one hundred and sixty-five acres.
Samuel R. was born in 1842, and lives on the old
homestead with his sister Mary caring for their aged
mother.

THOMAS LAW was born near
Wheeling, West Virginia, on Jan. 18, 1793. His parents
brought him to Wayne township, Noble county. His
marriage took place in 1822. His wife was the second
child of Jonathan and Sarah (Harris) Miller, of West
Virginia, and was born in 1803. They lived twelve
years on a farm adjoining his father's, and he died there in
1834. After his death Mrs. Law lived three
years in Wills township and eight years in Wayne township,
and in 1846 returned to Wills township, where she still
lives. Five of her six children yet live. Her
son Jonas was born in 1827, and married Clementine
Williams in 1855; she was born in 1836, on Oct. 17th.
They settled on a farm and yet live there with their mother,
who is the tender object of their loving care in her old
age. Their children are: Elma Q., Ora A.,
Carlos M., and Homer A. For a number of
years Jonas has been s supervisor and school
director. He possesses two hundred and two acres.

WILLIAM D. FRAME,
father of Mrs. Ann McStewart, was born in 1790, and
married Susanna Frame, who was eight years his
junior. They settled on a farm here, and Mr. Frame
died on it in 1872. The widow still lives there, being
now eighty-three years old. They had ten children.
Ann Frame was born in 1829, and married Thomas
McStewart in 1855. Her husband was born in
1824. After marriage they lived in the southern part
of Wills township, and Mr. McStewart died there in
1872. Mrs. McStewart is living on the
homestead with her four children, viz.; Bell D., Martha
A., John F., and Ella E. The farm covers
two hundred and ninety-one acres of really good farming

REV. JOHN REA, D. D.,
was born in Ireland in 1773. He went to Westmoreland
county, Pennsylvania, when very young and married
Elizabeth Christey in 1791. In 1794 he located in
what is now Harrison county, Ohio, and died there in 1856.
His wife died one year previous. They had ten
children. Those living are: John, Andrew,
and Francis. Francis was born in 1808,
and attended college from 1823 to 1832. He graduated
at Miami college and has since been practicing medicine.
In 1847 he married Mary H. England, of Steubenville,
Ohio, who was born in 1820. They have since lived at
Washington, in Wills township. They have two sons and
four daughters: William P.; Elizabeth J., wife
of Alfred Day; Mary F., wife of Harry Haines;
David E., Sarah J., and Addie J. - Pg. 521
JAMES STEWART was born in
Ireland in 1776, and married Rachel Bratton, who was
also born in that year. Their wedded life was a brief
one, and was spent in Mifflin county, Pennsylvania, where he
died in 1804. In 1815 Mrs. Stewart and family
moved to Guernsey county, Ohio, Madison township, and she
died there in 1834. James Stewart, of Wills, in
the only living representative of this family. He was
born January 13, 1805, and married in 1828 to Mary
Stewart, nee Gray. They have since lived at
Washington, in this township. He drove live stock east
for thirty years. Since then he has been a merchant
dealing in drugs, etc. They have seven children, viz.:
William, James, Rachel J., Martha A., Clinton S., Dorcas
A., and Andrew G. -

JAMES TYSON, a Virginian,
born in 1790, married Margaret Rose, of his own
State. In 1836 they settled in Belmont county, Ohio,
where he pursued his business of coopering until his death
in 1860. She died in 1864. Their children were:
Julia Ann, Emily, Jane Ann, Mary, and James A.
The latter was born in 1832, and married Rebecca Gladman
in 1857. Miss Gladman was then seventeen years
of age. They lived at Fairview four years, and in 1861
came to Washington, where they have since lived, and where
he has a flouring mill. They have three
children: Jennie, wife of R. M. Colley;
William, and Laura. Mr. James A. Tyson has
always been a miller. - Pg.

RICHARD COEN was born in
Greene county, Pennsylvania, in 1801, and grew up among the
stirring scenes of the nineteenth century. When
nineteen years of age he helped build the National pike.
In 1824 he married Elizabeth Brooks of Pennsylvania,
and made a home in that part of Guernsey, which now forms a
portion of Noble county. He died in 1877. His
wife died in 1838. Their eight children are still
living: William, James, Joshua, Samuel, Jane, Mary
Ann, Richard, and Rebecca. Samuel Coen was
born in 1828, and married Mary Ferguson in
1854. She was born in 1831. In 1856 they moved
to Wills township, at Washington, and live there yet with
their only son, Alexander L.. Mr. Coen owns one
hundred and eighty-seven acres of land, and is a retired
farmer. -

DAVID CRAFT was born in
Germany in 1764, and went to Pennsylvania with his parents,
who died in Fayette county some time afterwards.
David married Margaret Woodrow in 1788, in her
eighteenth year. He remained on the homestead until
his death in 1837, having out-lived his wife a quarter of a
century. Elizabeth and Elijah alone of their
thirteen children survive. Elizabeth was born
in 1803, and married Alexander H. Sproat in 1829.
Mr. Sproat was born in 1796. Soon after
marriage they came to Wills township, and he died there
September 7, 1870. Mrs. Sproat had five
children, of whom these still survive: Joseph N., Elijah
E.; Sarah E., now Mrs. William C. McCullough; and
Samuel A. Elijah E. was born in 1836, and married
Miss H. R. Alexander in 1863. She was born in
1841, and died in 1866. Samuel A. was born in
1847. E. E. and S. A. manage the farm of
three hundred acres. - Pg.

JOHN BAIRD was born in
Pennsylvania in 1789, and lived with his parents after their
removal to Wills township near Washington. He married
Jane Frame in 1815. Her birth was in October, 1796.
They settled on a farm in Wills, and lived on it for sixty
years. He died in 1875, and she in 1874. Five of
their twelve children still live. Robert F. Baird,
son of John, was born May 17, 1834, and married
Mary J. Sproat in 1867. Miss Sproat was the
daughter of William and Nancy Sproat, of Oxford
township, and was born in October, 1834. They have
since lived on the homestead, and have one child - John
Emmett. The entire family were earnest members of
the United Presbyterian church. Mr. Baird owns
one hundred and fifty-two acres of land, and has been
supervisor two terms. - Pg. 522
WILLIAM BEVEARD, was
born in Ireland in 1756, and married Mary
Lookingbiel, who was born in Maryland in 1766.
After marriage they remained in Maryland until 1810, when
they settled in Oxford township, Guernsey county, and when
nearing their last hours they lived with their son
William in Wills township. Both died in 1856.
Their living children are: Jonathan, Rachel,
and Susannah. Susannah was born in 1807,
and married Thompson Rose in 1837. He was born
in 1802. They settled in Oxford township until
1857, and then moved to Wills township, where he died two
years later. Mrs. Rose still lives on the
homestead of her daughters. Lydia is wife of
Samuel Rose, of Oxford township. Ann M.,
and Tacy J. Rose live at home. Her farm ahs two
hundred and ten acres. - Pg. 522
WILLIAM THOMPSON was
born in Guernsey county in 1806, and married Mary Connor
in 1835. She was a daughter of John and Lettie
Connor of this county, and was born in 1815. They
made they home in Richland township, near
Senecaville, and lived there until 1849; then they spent
five years in Noble county, and then they spent five years
in Noble county, and then he ended his days in Muskingum
county, dying in 1857. In 1860 Mrs. Thompson
and family moved to Illinois, where she died in 1864.
They had six children. Their son Morgan and was
in 1841, and in 1865 married Jane Elliott, who was
two years his junior. They settled in Iroquois county,
Illinois, but shortly moved to Muskingum county, Ohio, and
eight years later finally located in this township in 1875.
They have three children - Frank, Dora and John.
Mr. Thompson has been a school director four terms, and
owns one hundred and thirty-five acres of good farming
ground. - Pg. 522
JAMES
H. BAIRD was born in Wills township on May 16, 1841.
Miss Sarah J. Priaulx, who became Mrs. James H.
Baird, was born in 1843. They were married on
June, 3, 1873. They have since lived on their farm in
Wills township, near Washington. Their four children
are still living at home. Their names are: Clarinda
L., William K., Alice F., and Charles M.
Mr. Baird is a general farmer, and is the fortunate
owner of one hundred and twenty-two acres of fine farming
and stock-raising ground. - Pg. 522
JACOB ENDLEY, father of
Mrs. Kate M. Lawrence, has his birth in Pennsylvania in
1779, and his wife, Mary Rabe, was born in
1787. Their wedding ceremony was in 1805. They
remained in Pennsylvania six years, and he then purchased a
farm in Belmont county, Ohio, and lived on it until 1816.
From 1816 to 1832 he kept a hotel in Center township, and
from 1832 until his death in 1852, he kept the hotel at
Washington, Guernsey county. His wife died in 1842.
They left five children - Elizabeth A., wife of
Johnb E. Boyd; Sophia L., wife of James S. Boyd;
George A., Jacob K., and Kate M. The latter
was born in 1823, and married Albert G. Lawrence in
1843. Mr. Lawrence was born in 1816.
They spent their married life in Washington, where he was a
merchant until his death in 1866. Their children were:
Albert E.; Catharine E., wife of Charles Merrick;
Ada V., wife of Theodore Haines; and Charles
E. They live well on their one hundred and twenty
acre farm. - Pg. 522
JAMES L. SMITH was born in
Fayette county, Pennsylvania, in 1807. He wife was a
Miss Mary Ann Winders, who was born in December, 1811.
Their wedding day was Sept. 30, 1830, and their first home
was in Cambridge. Mr. Smith drove the stage
coach from Cambridge to Washington for seven years, and then
returned to Pennsylvania. In 1846 he began to keep the
hotel at Washington, Guernsey county, and is still its
proprietor. Mrs. Smith died Jan. 6,
1881, after a happy married life of more than a half
century. Their family consists of seven children,
viz.: Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Clark; Mary C.,
wife of Alexander McCollum; Harriet J.,
wife of Silas M. Barton; Julia, wife of
George L. White; William C., James E., and Thomas
G. His granddaughter Allie, offspring of
Mrs. Silas Barton, is living with him, and is the
stewardess of the hotel. - Pg. 522
ZACHARIAH
PURDUM, was born in 1848 in Center township, and married
Mary Colley, a daughter of William Colley, of
Washington. He was then just twenty-one years of age,
and his wife twenty. This was in the year 1869.
They lived at Washington until the centennial year.
Then they spent three years in the oil regions of
Pennsylvania, and in the spring of 1879 returned to
Washington, their present home. Erastus, their
only child, lives with them. Mr. Purdum is in
the livery business at Washington. - Pg. 523
JOHN AND MARGARET
(PORTER) WILKIN, were residents of Washington county,
Pennsylvania, where they had their birth, marriage, and
death. They had five children, of whom Archibald,
the third, was born in the year 1823; left an orphan at an
early age, he remained in Pennsylvania until 1842, when he
settled in Wills township. The next year he married
Mercy Miller, daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Miller,
of Wills township. The next year he married Mercy
Miller, daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Miller of
Wills township. She was born June 30, 1823.
After marriage they settled on the farm now known as the
Moore farm, and in February following, chose their
present home on what was then the Scott farm.
Their children were: John, now dead; William A.,
and Josephine wife of James H. Brown of Oxford
township. William A. was born in 1848, and
married Louisa J. Morton in 1872. Miss
Morton was born in 1849. They have since lived
with his father and mother. He is a farmer, and has
two hundred and seven acres of land. Their children
are: Mary and Elizabeth C. - Pg. 523
JOHN CUNNINGHAM was born
in this county in 1814, and married Martha Todd in
1841. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth
Todd, of Virginia, and only sixteen years old when made
a wife. They located in Wills township, and here
Mr. Cunningham died in 1872. Mrs. Cunningham
still lives on the homestead, where seven of her ten
children are gathered around her. Their names are:
Eleanor A., Margaret M., Martha A., James E., John S.,
Cynthia V., and Francis M., Elizabeth J. is the
wife of A. A. Hickson, of Millwood township.
William W. lives in Oxford township, and Mary R.
is the wife of Joseph Hamilton, of Wills.
Mr. Cunningham owned one hundred and eighty-eight acres
which are now being farmed by John S. Cunningham.

RICHARD J. CLARK was born
in Maryland in 1818. His parents went to Cambridge in
1826. There he married Anna M. Beymer in 1843.
She was a daughter of Simon Beymer, and dates
her birth from 1824. Since their marriage Mr. Clark
has been a merchant at Washington. They have a
family of five children, viz.: Otho; Mollie,
wife of James M. Porter, who lives in West Virginia;
Dora; Harry; and Jennie.
Erastus, and Ella, wife of P. B. Hoover,
have passed away. Mr. Clark is a wool
merchant, and has paid more than three fourths of a million
dollars for wool in one year.

ABRAHAM CLEMENTS was
born in Pennsylvania in 1770, and his wife, Hannah M.
Harra, was born in same year. From 1800 to 1809
they lived at Steubenville, and from 1809 to 1830 he kept
the hotel at Washington. In that year he died; his
wife followed him in 1847. Four of their eleven
children are living. Their son Hezekiah was
born on Oct. 12, 1802. He left home on reaching
manhood, and learned the trade of a shoemaker, at which he
has worked continuously since. In 1828 he and Betsy
Wood were married. Nine years later they came
to Washington, and Mrs. Clements died there in
1853. He had eight children by her - Minerva,
Benjamin F., Anna E., Mary, James, Matilda, Thomas T.,
and William A. In 1866 he was again married, to
Mrs. Narcissa McNutt who was born in 1827. She was
a daughter of Edward Swan. Their only
child was named Alfretta. - Pg. 523
THOMAS FRAME was the son of
Moses and Rebecca (Erskins) Frame, who came here from
Fayette county, Pennsylvania, in 1810, and located three
miles east of Washington, on a farm. Their son
Thomas was born there Nov. 1, 1821, and remained on his
birthplace until he died of typhoid fever, on Oct. 14, 1872.
He was a farmer, a Presbyterian in Religious belief, and a
Republican in politics. On Sept. 26, 1843, he married
Esther St. Clair, daughter of William and Alice
(Smith) St. Clair, of the vicinity of Salesville.
She was born in Belmont county, Ohio, Oct. 21, 1823.
Their children were: Sebastian Cabot,
deceased; Tyrannus Basford, deceased;
Alonzo Pinzen; Mary Nevada; Otis
D., deceased; Cornelius Aultman; and
Roland S. The four living children are in this
township. Roland St. Clair Frame was born on
Dec. 23, 1844, on the farm, and was educated at Washington
and Cambridge. HE farmed and taught district schools
until 1874, and then opened a hardware and country machinery
store in Washington. In 1881 his brother Alonzo
became his partner, and the firm are very prosperous. Mr.
Roland S. Frame was chosen a member of the Legislature
from Guernsey county, and, having proved an acceptable
representative, was re-elected in the fall of 1881.
Mr. Frame married the only daughter of John
Thomas Clark, who lives on the pike at the four-mile cut.
Mr. Frame's children are: Minnie
Olive, born Sept. 4, 1867; Clara Lowry,
born June 18, 1875; Gertrude M., born Mar. 12, 1877;
Rollo St. Clair, born May 8, 1878, and Mabel
born May 15, 1881. - Pg. 523
JOHN MICHENER was born in
Pennsylvania in 1785, and married Mary Good, who was
born in Pennsylvania on July 20, 1783. They lived in
Pennsylvania until 1832, when they moved to Belmont county,
Ohio. He died there in 1872, having long outlived his wife
who died in 1843. He was a farmer, They had nine
children, viz.: Thomas, Barak, Wilson, Eben,
Hannah, Seth, Jessie, Marian, and Israel. Seth
Michener was born in June, 1819, in Chester county,
Pennsylvania. He came to Ohio with his parents and in 1850
married Elizabeth Shannon, daughter of John and
Hannah Shannon, of Belmont county. She was born in
1824. They lived in Belmont county until 1869, and
then moved on the Nancy M. Gill farm, just west of
Washington. They have three children living and one
dead, viz.: Mary A., wife of Dr. James E. Smith;
Theresa and John S. Addie is dead. -

SAMUEL WILKINS was born
in Harrison county in 1804. In 1838 he married
Elizabeth Stewart, who was born in 1812, in Ireland.
After marriage they settled in Londonderry township, where
Mr. Wilkins died in 1875, and where Mrs. Wilkins
is still living on the homestead. Their family
consisted of four children, viz: John S., Mary J.,
James, and William. William was born in
1848. In 1875 he married Mary L. Stage, who was
born in 1847, and is the daughter of Henry and Mary
Stage. of Oxford township. After four years of
life in Londonderry they came to Wills. Their children
are: Mary L. and Hattie Bell. Mr.
Wilkin is superintendent of the county infirmary.
His brother, John S., lives in Cambridge, and his
mother lives on the homestead with her children - Mary J.
and James.-

WILLIAM BURDETT was
born in Maryland in the year 1769. He lived with his
parents until his marriage with Rosa Fitzgerald
and settlement on a farm in Montgomery county, Maryland.
A few years later he moved to Belmont county, Ohio, and many
years afterwards died on his latest settlement in Tuscarawas
county. Five of his seven children are living.
His son Elias was born in 1804, married Eliza King
and settled on a farm in Maryland. In 1854 his wife
died, having had sixteen children, viz.: William, a
gallant soldier of the late war, now dead; David,
accidentally killed; Elias, also a deceased veteran;
Julia Ann, wife of George Keats;
Rose Etta, wife of William Tedrick;
John, died in the service of his country; Rachel,
dead; James also died in the service; Benjamin,
married Sarah Wianet; Jasper, living in
Tuscarawas; Newton, dead; Eliza Jane,
wife of James Hunt; and then moved near
Washington, in Wills township, where he is living now.
Four of his children by the second wife are alive, viz:
Samantha L., Matilda, Mary Frances, and Roxy Ann.
Winfield Scott, their other child, is dead. Mr.
Burdett owns one hundred and twelve acres of land.
