NATHAN HUFFMAN.
George, the father of Nathan Huffman, was born in
the mountains glades of Pennsylvania, in 1787. He was
for some years a resident of Washington county, and in 1811
was there married to Mary, daughter of Nathaniel
Kimball, by whom he had eleven children, viz.:
Jane, John, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Delila, George, Nancy,
William, Abraham, Joshua, and Ephraim. They
all reached manhood and womanhood and were married at home.
Nathan's grandfather bought land here in 1809, when
several tribes of Indians lived near. Nathan
was born in 1818, and in 1840 became owner of his
grandfather's land, and married Elizabeth, daughter
of Rev. Hugh Brown. Their children were
George, Hugh B., Ellen J., James R., and William H.
Hugh, the second son, is now general passenger agent on
the Pan Handle railroad, from Columbus to Pittsburgh.
GEORGE W. YEO was the
son of Levi Yeo, who was born in Calvert county,
Maryland, in 1772. He married in 1808, and the names
of his four children were Sarah, Elizabeth, James and
George W. George Washington Yeo was born in
Anne Arundell county, Maryland, Mar. 8, 1813, and resided
there until twenty-two years of age. He then settled
near Barnesville, for ten years, and in 1845 located here.
In 1837 Mr. Yeo married Nancy Burden, a
daughter of Reuben Burden, who was born in Washington
county, Ohio, in 1818. By her he had ten children,
viz.:

James, Rebecca J., Mary F., William B., John T.,
George N., Robert W., Samuel G., Annie M. and
Benjamin F. Mr. Yeo owns eighty acres. His
father served in the War of 1812. -
DANIEL TETTRICK was
born in New Jersey, in 1783, and came to this county when
some seventeen years of of age. In 1810 he married
Jenny Scaddon, by whom he had seven children - Jacob,
William Isaiah, Alexander, Elizabeth A., Mary J. and
Daniel. The last two were twins. He took for
his second wife Mary Passmore, a widow, who was born
in 1793. He also had seven children by her, viz:
Margaret, Melinda, Teresa, Sarah j., Dennison, Joseph J.,
Enoch P. Her children by her first husband were:
George W., James M., Warren, and Louisa.
Dennison was born in Madison township in 1833, and
married Elizabeth Ann McCollum, who was born in 1835.
They have had no children. He owns eighty-six acres,
and he and his excellent wife and devoted to their adopted
children.
Samuel,
father of JAMES S. CUNNINGHAM,
was born in Ireland in 1759. By his wife, Jane
Stevenson, five children were born. In 1823 the
family arrived in Washington county and lived there nine
years. Then, in his seventy-fourth year, he took up
his final abode in this county. He and his family,
James S. excepted, are long since deceased.
James was born in Ireland in 1811, and in 1838 married
Elizabeth Cunningham, by whom he had twelve children
viz: John, Rose, Samuel, Margaret, Mary A., Andrew,
Elizabeth R., Nancy M., Robert B., Martha J., Jane, and
James S. The latter held various offices, and
owns two hundred and ninety-three acres, being a stock
raiser and general farmer. Mrs. Cunningham left
Ireland in 1818, when only two years old and has lived here
since 1820.
JOHN
W. McBRIDE's father, Frederick, was born in
Washington county, Pennsylvania in 1806. When ten
years old his parents settled in this county. In 1829
he married Margaret, daughter of Bettie Johnson.
They had nine children, viz: James, John W., Thomas,
Sarah, Margaret, Joseph, Walter, Smiley, and one
deceased in infancy. John W. was married in
1866 to Elizabeth Bell a widow, daughter of
Esquire Stoggle. Their children were:
Frederick, Nellie, and Caddie. Ralph P. Bell,
son of Elizabeth and Rev. Alexander Bell, was born in
1859, and lives in Antrim. His mother's maiden name
was Elizabeth Stoggle. John McBride owns one
hundred and eighty-one acres and is a general farmer.
WILLIAM LOGAN
ROBERT CAMPBELL
JOHN SAVIERS,
father of John Saviers, Jr., was a native of
Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, and married Betsey Ulery
in 1793, when he had just reached his thirtieth year.
They had a family of twelve children, viz: Charles,
Polly, Jessie, John, Jane, Cyrus, Henry, Betsey, George,
Rebeca, Milton and Hiram. John Saviers, Jr.,
was born in 1800 in Beaver county, Penn-

sylvania. He had eight children by his first wife,
Nancy Hoffman, viz: Louisa, Jacoob, Sarah,
Nancy, John W., Elizabeth, George, Mary J., and John.
Mr. Saviers has over two hundred acres of land. He
is a general farmer and his held numerous offices.
ANDREW CUNNINGHAM
was born in Ireland in 1813. He removed with his
father to Washington county, Pennsylvania, for a season, and
then became a permanent resident of this county. On
Apr. 22, 1841, he married Mary A., daughter of Samuel
Lindsey. She was born in 1822. They had twelve
children: Samuel L., James W., John S., Mattie J.,
Robert W., William M., Rebecca E., Nancy M., Mary E., Emily
L., Andrew S., and Ida A. Andrew Cunningham
has always been a farmer, and has held township offices.
He owns two hundred and fifty acres, and is deservedly
popular.
GEORGE
B. CARLISLE, was born in Pennsylvania, on the Juniata
river, Mar. 24, 1813. In 1819 he came here, and has
since made this township his home. On Sept. 18, 1834,
he married Elizabeth S., daughter of John Hanna.
She was born Jan. 5, 1817, in this county. Their
eleven children were named: John H., William
H., George W., Isaac B., Rebecca H., Armintha C., Thomas C.,
Mary E., James M., Henry H., and Robert W. John
H. was born Sept. 28, 1835, in this township, and has
always resided here. On June 30, 1880, he married
Mary E. Bridgman, daughter of Joseph Bridgman
Their two children were named Carrie Estella and
Laura May. The first died Sept. 6, 1881.
Mr. Carlisle owns one hundred and thirty-five acres.
He was a stock raiser until six years ago, when he became a
general merchant. He was a soldier for thirty-three
months during the civil war, serving as lieutenant of
company A, Ninety-seventh Ohio volunteer infantry, and
afterwards as captain of company B, in the same regiment.
His father died on December 29, 1874, and his mother on July
25, 1872. His sister, Mary E., died Mar. 31,
1871; Rebecca H., another sister, died April 18,
1844.
JAMES STOCKDALE, SR.,
was a son of John Stockedale, an Irishman, who
was born in 1750. John Stockdale's first
marriage was with Jane Seed, in 1790.
Their children were named: Robert, John,
James, and Moses. His second wife was
Miss Ann Stockdale, and his children by her were called
Hugh and William. James Stockdale,
Sr., married Phebe, daughter of Thomas
Lening, in 1825. She was eighteen years of age,
and became the mother of eleven children, viz.: Lydia,
Moses, Mary, Samuel W., Elizabeth,
Jane, James, Martha B., Thomas,
Margaret, and Elias L. James
afterwards married Mary Bickham, who was born
in 1821. He owns two hundred and sixty-five acres, and
has been justice of the peace for more than thirty years.
He was a merchant ten years and has farmed since. In
early days he taught school and sat on one end of the back
log and the scholars on the other. James Stockdale,
Jr., has resided near here since his birth at Antrim,
Mar. 24, 1839. In 1860 he took to wife Eliza K.,
daughter of Thomas Boyd, by whom he had seven
children, viz.: Lillie B., Hattie L., Ora M.,
Ulysses G., Lena L., Carrie P., and Dolly.
He has a fine farm and a very attractive home. He owns
two hundred and nineteen acres and is a cattle raiser.
CHRISTOPHER
WALTERS was born in Pennsylvania in 1753, and
married Mary Stots, who was born in 1773. They
remained in Pennsylvania several years, and then came to
Knox township, where they lived until her death in 1824.
Ten years later he followed her. Four of their seven
children are living, viz: Mary Ann, in Iowa;
William in this township; Rachel, in Cambridge;
and Hannah. Hannah was born in 1823, and
married John Rolingson in 1849. Mr.
Rolingson was the oldest child of Robert
and Martha Rolingson, of England, who was
born in 1799, and died in 1853. This couple settled
near Cambridge after marriage, and there Mr. Rolingson
died. Mrs. Rolingson lives on the homestead;
her two children are John C. and William R.
John C. married Elizabeth A. Thomas, daughter of
Samuel Thomas of Jefferson township; they have one
child, Theresa A. William R. lives in Kansas.

JOHN ADAIR
MICHAEL TETERICK's
birthplace was near the Susquhanna river, in Pennsylvania,
in 1791. In 1813 he married Sarah Mathews,
daughter of Ephraim Mathews. Miss Mathews was a
native of Vermont, and was born in 1796. They had
eleven children. Eli, the son of Michael,
was born on Mar. 31, 1820, adn has always resided here.
In 1849 he married Amy Gillett daughter of Jediiah,
who was born in 1825. Their three children were
Sarah, Newman, and Melancthon. Mr. Teterick
married again in 1857, his wife being Martha,
daughter of David Maxwell who was born in 1836.
Their three children are George, Hattie, and
Rettie. He owns one hundred and forty-six acres of
farming and grazing land.
MOSES
MONTGOMERY was born in Ireland in 1777, and
married Martha Gilmore in 1800. Miss
Gilmore was a child wife, being only fifteen years
old. She gave birth to nine children - Annie, John,
Moses, William, Emeline, Martha, Robert, Jane and
George. Miss Gilmore's grandfather, Andrew W.
Wilson, was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1786, and
married Elizabeth Dreamer Hylicker in 1811. She
was a daughter of John Hylicker, and was born in
1793. Their children were Sarah E., and
Catharine. Mr. Wilson was a locksmith by
trade, and had charge of the United States armory at
Springfield, Massachusetts, during the war of 1812.
Robert H. Montgomery was born in Brooklyn, New York, in
1815, and was a son of Moses Montgomery. He
married Catharine Wilson in 1839. She was born
in 1817. They had eight children - Robert, George,
Sarah, Annie, Charles, Frank M., Robert G., and William.
The widow owns one hundred and sixty acres, and has an
attractive home.
RACHEL ENGLISH is the
daughter of Matthew Marling, who was born in
Virginia in 1798. Her mother was Elizabeth
Terrell, who was born in 1800. Their eight
children were Daniel, John, Jane, Elizabeth, Josiah,
Isaac, Isabel, and Rachel. Rachel
was born in 1832 in this county, and in 1852 was married to
Hugh English, who was born in 1822.
Their seven children were James M., Ella R., Clark C.,
Annie B., Hugh M. C., Martha J., and John M.
Mrs. English owns one hundred and twenty acre. Her
husband was a farmer.
WILLIAM MAY was a
Marylander, and born about 1782. He married
Margaret McBratney in 1808. Her father's
name was Robert, and she and her husband were the
same age. They had nine children - Jane, Robert,
Mary, Andrew J., Eliza, Lucinda, George W. and
William P. and Margaret A., (twins).
William P. May was born in Belmont county in 1820, and
made his permanent home here in 1836. Mr.
May owns one hundred and sixty acres. He has been
a carpenter and farmer, but now give s his entire attention
to stock raising. He is an enterprising and
influential man in this community.
MRS. MARTHA J.
SPEER, a widow, owns one hundred and sixty acres
of land in Madison township. Her father was
Jonathan Boyd, and the date of her birth 1839.
Thirty-one years later she became the second wife of
James F. Speer. In 1802 he married Miss
Bryan and had a family of twelve children. James
F., his son, was born in Pennsylvania in 1825, and married
Elizabeth Forsythe, who was eight years his junior.
Their four children were Elizabeth A., William R., Robert
F., and Samuel J. By his later marriage
with Miss Boyd he had six children - James
O., George H., Oliver j., Sadie V., John C., and
Edward C.
JAMES ENGLISH
was born in this county in 1793, and married
Rachel Rolston in Washington

ton county, Pennsylvania, in 1816. Miss Rolston
was born in Ireland in 1789, and was brought to this country
when a little child. They had nine children, namely:
James, Joseph, Mary, John, Hugh, William, Andrew, George,
and Jesse. James, their oldest child, was born
in Guernsey county, in 1817, and has resided here
continuously, with the exception of three years' residence
in Washington county, Pennsylvania. In 1838 he amrried
Elizabeth A. Smith, who was the same age as himself,
and also born in this county. Their children were
Easter E., and a pair of twins, born in 1843, named
John S. and Sarah. Mr. English married
again in 1876. His second wife was Martha Caldwell
daughter of John Caldwell of Harrison county.
She was born in 1832, and has had no children. Mr.
English owns 188 acres.
JAMES WEYER was born at
Baltimore, Maryland, Dec. 20, 1788, and married Mary
Woller in 1813. She was born in 1792. The
children by this marriage were Katharine, Peter, Margaret,
and an infant that died. James held various
township offices. Peter Weyer was born Feb. 22,
1822, and married Louisa, daughter of Henry
Nichols, in 1853. She was born in 1829.
Their six children were Mary, Jesse, James, Ella, Jennie,
and Clara. Peter owns one hundred and sixty
acres, which comprise one of Madison township's finest
farms. He has served the township in various offices.

SR.
ISAAC BONNEL
CHARLES SCOTT was born
in Ireland, county Down, in the year 1776. While yet a
child he left the oppressed land of his nativity and
breathed the air of free America the rest of his days.
In 1797 he married Violet Scott, who was his own age.
She became the mother of six children - William, Mary,
Charles, Elizabeth, John and Moses.
William was born at the head of Elk river, in Maryland,
in 1798, and in 1822 married Eliza, daughter of
Hugh Allison, and of his own age. Their children
were: Hugh, William, Myra, John, and Elizabeth A.
Mr. Scott owns twenty-one acres and is a farmer, though
in his younger days he was a carpenter. He is now
eighty-three years old and is awaiting the summons of the
Master.
