  LEWIS F. BARNUM - and his wife, Sarah E. Kidd, were born in Putnam county, the former Apr. 4, 1849, the latter Mar. 4, 1853.  They were married June 15, 1871, and have two children:  Fannie, born Mar. 13, 1873, and Alta, Feb. 11, 1875.  Mr. Barnum's parents, Thomas B. and Mary E. (Sigafoose) Barnum, came into the county in 1846.  Grandfather Barnum served in the Revolutionary war.  Business, farming.
Post-office, Columbus Grove.

  MARKEL F. BROOKS - station engineer on Dayton and Michigan Railroad, at Ottawa, son of Elisha and Margaret (Woods) Brooks, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, June 24, 1835, and settled in this county, in December, 1859.  He married in Hancock county, Apr. 1, 1858, Elizabeth Bowers, who was born in Wayne county, June 17, 1834, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Bysel) Bowers  Children: Melville R., born Jan. 1, 1859; Effa E., born Oct. 27, 1861, died Nov. 9, 1865; Martha J., born Nov. 14, 1864, died July 28, 1866; Laura E., July 28, 1867; Anna L., Jan. 3, 1870; Grace, Apr. 10, 1873; Eva, June 14, 1879.  Mr. Brooks had five brothers in the Union army in the late war; his brother John being in Company I, 118th O. V. I.  His grandfather, Edward Woods, was a soldier and pensioner in the Revolutionary war, and was in the battles of Bunker Hill and Brandywine.  Post-office, Ottawa.
