  I. S. VARNER - whose parents, Jacob and Eliza (Guyton) Varner, settled in this county in 1833, was born in 1842.  His wife, Fanny, whose parents, Abraham and Margaret (Fender) Landis, came to this county in 1836, was born in 1845.  They were married Oct. 8, 1865, and have a family of seven children: Emma M., born June 3, 1866; Eliza M., Jan. 29, 1868; Mary E., Sept. 26, 1869; Charles F., Jan. 27, 1872; Squire J., Feb. 4, 1874; Jerry M., Nov. 13, 1875; Martin W., Apr. 24, 1877.  He served in the Fifty-seventh regiment O. V. I., in the war of the Rebellion, over Three years; was wounded at the battle of Shiloh, Apr. 6, 1862; was taken prisoner at Atlanta in 1864, and kept in Andersonville Prison, two months.

  W. J. VARNER - whose parents, Jacob and Eliza (Guyton) Varner, settled in this county in 1833, was born in 1848.  His wife, Anna, whose parents, John P. and Sibilla (Kensinger) Simon, came to this county in 1836, was born in 1850.  They were married Nov. 21, 1869, and have three children: Nettie, Nov. 29, 1871; Gertie, Nov. 13, 1873; Carl C., Oct. 14 1875.  His brother, Isaiah Varner, served in the war of the Rebellion.  Occupation, farming.

  FRANK F. VERHOFF - whose parents, John F. and Anna M. (Kramer) Verhoff, emigrated to this county from Germany in 1836, was born Mar. 24, 1848, and was married Apr. 30, 1873.  His wife, Maria C., whose parents, Gerhard H. and Anna M. E. (Recker) Mersmann, came to this county in 1848, was born Aug. 6, 1865.  They have had two children: Anna M. E., born Jan. 20, 1875, diedI Jan. 4, 1878; Anna, Nov. 19, 1877.  He has been elected supervisor two terms.  Occupation, farming.
